Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016, Part 2

I think it's great that you're interested in these numbers but this is far from a real statistical analysis. Using the term "significantly" is misleading because the word "significant" is a term of art in statistics. When something is statistically significant it's because the numbers have been analyzed using actual statistical models (like a regression model). You can also isolate variables to actually look at the data at a much deeper level and make much stronger inferences about what's going on and answer more questions. Which students are leaving? What areas of the town are they leaving from the most? Are actions TUSD is taking slowing the decline in enrollment or are there other factors at play? Did the economic crisis influence student mobility?

You're just making a very broad and vague statement/generalization with a few raw numbers that may or may not have any actual significance. The district should commission a study and do just that.

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016, Part 2

Not even filling the seats with illegals can stem the flood of students fleeing TUSD. How much destruction can Adelita Grijalva and H.T. Sanchez commit on our school system?

Thanks, Peabrain. I can always count on dead from the neck clowns like you who know how much I love dislikes, but hit them anyway. Bozos like you make it too easy. Funny how you needed almost an hour and a half between comments to get them all in.

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016

This is interesting. TUSD lost more teachers in 2015-16 than it lost students. In the 3 years under Dr. Sanchez, TUSD has lost about 1200 teachers out of 2500 teachers. There have been over twice as many resignations as retirements. TUSD is losing teachers faster than it can hire them.

Re: “Review: Hillary’s America: the Secret History of the Democratic Party

Thanks, but no thanks. I'd rather drink beer with the chickenshits. D'Souza's nothing but a propagandist, like Michael Moore. And a heavy-handed one at that, like Michael Moore. Sure doesn't sound like a good time to me. Or an informative one.

Re: “Wednesday at the DNC

If you're more concerned about the possible source of the #DNCLeak -- completely unproven at this point and promoted by the same media that are in collusion with the DNC -- than about the fact that the Dem primaries were rigged (see recent remarks by Harry Reid), then you are the reason that so many of us will never support Clinton, no matter how much fearmongering you attempt.

No, Clinton would NOT have won without the DNC's thumb on the scale, stealing or tossing out the votes of thousands (perhaps millions) of citizens and feeding false stories to the media. In sports, when someone is proved to have cheated, their "win" is rescinded. Why do we have lower standards for "democracy"?

electionjusticeusa.org released a report that said: "In our research we examined the election results of the 2016 presidential primaries, and found irregularities in the overwhelming majority of the twenty-one states that we analyzed. The data indicates, in particular, that the totals reported on the Democratic side in the race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders may not be correct. In state after state, independent examination by two separate analysts found suspect statistical patterns giving Clinton inflated percentages, that in all likelihood, are not fully based on actual votes, and showing Sanders with what appear to be artificially depressed totals."

Check out the details yourself. http://electionjusticeusa.org/index.php/re…

We have some of the most corrupt elections in the industrialized world, and you want us to fall in line? Not happening.

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016, Part 2

Let's leave aside for the time being the excellent question raised by a commenter on your previous piece on this topic, "What makes you think the data is accurate?"
http://www.tucsonweekly.com/TheRange/archives/2016/07/27/tusd-enrollment-2000-to-2016

That commenter pointed out that representatives of this district have a track record, during the last three years, of repeatedly being caught in lies in communications with the public, and that given what we've seen in the past, these behaviors seem likely to occur in cases where what is being reported is politically useful (e.g. enrollment figures given immediately preceding a board election).

You write, "That means that during the last two years, HOLDING ONTO students for the entire school year had a significant role in slowing the overall decrease of students." You seem to like that term "holding onto," which you use repeatedly throughout the piece.

But the numbers don't necessarily mean what you suggest. Overall enrollment change during any period reflects transfers in as well as transfers out, something that was previously pointed out to you in discussions of UHS enrollment. If enrollment at the beginning of the year was 1000 and at the end was 995, it doesn't necessarily mean the district "held onto 995 students for the entire school year." It may mean that the district lost 30 and gained 25 during the course of the school year.

As commenters have written many times, you have to be on the sites in this district to understand what the numbers mean. Gaming the numbers in various ways is a standard-issue administrative practice. You have not been on the sites, and you never make the effort to talk to those on the sites who might be able to help you understand what is ACTUALLY going on, as opposed to what the numbers the district produces suggest is going on.

(What happened with that audit report not too long ago, David? Did it confirm the % of classroom vs. admin spending the district had been self-reporting?)

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016, Part 2

Now it makes sense. As the students aged and the discipline problems became greater the parents took their kids and left. It's also the same time frame that the ADS had an online comments section where parents and teachers could post their stories without identifying themselves. (Out of fear of retribution.) This has gone on in TUSD since the mid 90s when the board was taken over by radicals.

At this point it is much like trying to drag the Titanic off the ocean floor. It's found peace right where it is at.

Peace on TUSD. Before they peace on you.

Calling D'souza an historian is like calling Homer Simpson a gourmet restaurant critic. Just one tiny error of hundreds, THERE WERE NO REPUBLICANS EXISTING DURING ANDREW JACKSON's term of office.

Dick Morris was on the Clinton payroll for years. But she doesn't have problems with bad decisions does she?

Re: “Review: Hillary’s America: the Secret History of the Democratic Party

Dinesh D'Souza is a right wing propagandist that subscribed to the desperate attempts at smearing Obama and made a documentary to push that :

1. He is born in Kenya

2. He is a muslim

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016

I removed my kids from TUSD 9 years ago as soon as Tanque Verde started open enrollment. After enduring 3 years of school closure threats I had had enough. I love the small classes and wonderful teachers and the kids all know each other. They are getting a first rate personal education. Nothing would make me return to TUSD.
