  • On Election Day, my 4-year-old grandson, Zim, came home excited about his day.
    <p>
    
    "Asu, Asu!" This is what he calls me; it is "grandma" in my Yaqui language. "I voted today!" He proudly wore his "I voted" sticker stuck to his shirt.
    <p>
    
    I replied, "You did? Who did you vote for?" 
    <p>
    
    "OBONGA!!" he shouted.  
    <p>
    
    So, needless to say, our wonderful new president-elect is called Obonga in our household.  
    <p>
    
    The day after the elections, I traveled to Italy. At the airport in Frankfurt, there were several newspapers from many countries, in many languages, with headlines announcing Obonga's win. I took a copy of each to show my children the effect this election had worldwide. I was surprised to see the impact it had, and how other countries viewed this event.  
    <p>
    
    The front-page headlines continued the whole week I was in Italy. I was the keynote speaker at a conference for a sustainable environment. I had just finished my presentation, and I was told a newspaper reporter wanted to interview me. His only question to me: "What do think of Obama?" Caren Trujillo
