Re: “Tucson Salvage

I became a fan of Brian Jabas Smith after moving to Tucson in 2017. Tucson Salvage led me to read Spent Saints and Other Stories which is one of those rare books that made an impression on me as it seemed to be written just for me. Brians stories are as real as the people he reveals to us as we read. It is always a powerful experience for me and he is consistently masterful at his craft.

Re: “Interview With TUSD Board Member Leila Counts

An internal auditor is good, if the position is structured in the right way. Appropriate disciplinary standards are good, but it is not clear from what is written here exactly how the standards function. As usual, the devil is in the details, and you only get the details by attending board meetings and reviewing budgets, not by reading this blog and taking what elected officials tell you at face value, without cross checking it.

As David carefully presents the case, Ms. Counts seems to be trying to make a positive difference. OK, so let her set aside her campaign story about the contrast between a few TUSD kindergartens she observed as a parent and how they differed from one (unspecified) local private school. Let her act like someone taking responsibility for governance and accurate reporting to the public and begin foregrounding what progress is being made on filling the districts classrooms with qualified teachers.

In this blog, let David replace his bar graphs on declining TUSD enrollment, which he explains with reference to the supposed racism of thousands and thousands of local parents who have withdrawn students from TUSD schools and / or with reference to charter and voucher policies implemented by the AZ legislature. Let him replace those bar graphs with bar graphs showing % of each public district where classrooms do not have a contracted, certified teacher in place, and let those bar graphs be supplemented with bar graphs that show entry level salaries and average salaries in every district. He can compare those public district vacancy rates and salary levels with vacancy rates and salary levels in charters and privates if he likes, and he can break the privates down into parochial, independent, and other. That would also be interesting, and would give us a much clearer and less partisan, less ideologically driven picture of what is going on in this state.

Finally, let the Democratic Party start admitting that all PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!! are not functioning at the same level, that the problems in some districts are exacerbated but not necessarily caused entirely by lack of funds, and that public funds applied in support of a child receiving a good education in ANY setting are not misapplied, though it is certainly the case that the entire system needs equity reform, more meaningful standards, guarantors of fiscal transparency and much, much better oversight than it gets in Arizona.

Re: “Dispensaries go digital

And now some dispensaries are adding a classroom yea a classroom to reimbursed by the MMJ monies as a learning center. Not a cent to go to education like this!

A community college that has cannabis courses available only can receive funds. I have been a user for years like most here. Going into a dispensary you see at times pretentious bud tender shoulders back and straight state there is sativa and then there is indica. That's about the extent, oh yea CBD myths no peer reviewed data on any CBD just testimonial from those that have money on the line. Pick up any literature at any dispensary and a ton of testimonials. Then you have self appointed advocates that want royalty rights to educational materials and bogus books which is bunk.

How many hands are out expecting a big payday.

Re: “Danehy

I hope you didn't take offence. I singled you out because I knew you would appreciate it. One thing I'll never forget was Jimi"s rendition of the National Anthem. To think that 50 years have come and gone since then pretty much blows my mind. For X-mas that year my mom bought me this insane poster. The picture was taken from behind the stage. I think Santana was playing but I'm not sure. The caption said " nobody who was there will ever be the same again" Boy , if that ain't the truth. Thanks for allowing me to share and your appreciation of what an incredible event it was. I'm sure I'll get 50 or more dislikes.

Re: “Interview With TUSD Board Member Leila Counts

Very very proud of you Leila. Being a swing vote is painful, especially when you are not aligned with one side or the other. But you are doing great! Volunteer WORK ( because it IS WORK!) is not easy but it is rewarding because you know that you are doing the right thing for the kids in TUSD. Our family is very proud of you! You come from a long tradition of TUSD teachers Starting with your grandmother Mary Stirling

Re: “Interview With TUSD Board Member Leila Counts

Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts and opinions, David! As I said, I am glad to be taking on this challenge- TUSD board work. To serve our students, families and TUSD educators has been one of the greatest joys in my life!

Re: “Danehy

I'm not exactly sure why you singled me out to inform me of the good times that you do and do not remember at Woodstock. All I can tell you is that it is beyond awesome that you were there and that experience definitely places you in a unique part of history. Cherish it! You should.

Sincerely, DC

Re: “Danehy

Tom Danehy wrote: "They're not for target practice or hunting. They exist only to kill large numbers of people."

Just google "AR-15 hunters" and "AR-15 target shooting" then click on images.

So the question becomes is Tom Danehy a liar or stupid?

Actually the question should just really be is Tom Danehy stupid?

We already know that Lying Tom Danehy is a proven liar, so is he also stupid?

Re: “Sahuarita Pecan Festival Cancelled, FICO Blames Global Tariffs

Pecans have become a popular snack in China. They bust them open and then soak them in a salty or sweet or salty/sweet liquid and then eat them.

China buys/bought about 1/3 of the total U.S. pecan crop.

The reason why they are the largest buyer of U.S. pecans is a matter of scale.

Just get every Chinese in the country to eat one pecan a day and you just sold a billion pecans.

Re: “Sahuarita Pecan Festival Cancelled, FICO Blames Global Tariffs

May be a dumb question but why was China the largest buyer? Could other countries be convinced to step up and fill the void?

Re: “Interview With TUSD Board Member Leila Counts

Shari 07, you see the statement about an interview being edited for clarity at the top of many interviews. It means that what you're reading isn't word for word, everything Leila Counts said, but it's her words and her ideas.

Re: “Danehy

Please Donald Trump , will you please continue to demonize people with tan or dark skin. I want you to do it every day so that by the time the elections roll around the Hispanic/Latino and Black voters will hate you and the Republicans so much that you wont get one vote from that demographic and the Republicans, including Moscow Mitch will be given the boot. MItch I heard that Putin was looking for a 1st class Bull--iter 'as a spokesperson and you would be perfect for that position.

Re: “Claytoon of the Day: Trump Has An Owie

groves you know democrat establishment supports free trade because of donor money or in biden's case chinese communist money. The hatred of trump is such that democrat establishment supports free trade because trump is against sending jobs to china. as churchill said if hitler invaded hell he would come out with good words for satan. when you look into the abyss the abyss looks into you. nietzsche.

Re: “Claytoon of the Day: Trump Derangement Syndrome

The FBI and DOJ partnered with Hillary and the Democrats on the Russia hoax. It's interesting how much they knew about it and how early on they knew it. Barr is not done turning the Mueller Report into real facts. Wait until you see the rats run.
