Re: “McCain: "I Cannot in Good Conscience Vote for Graham-Cassidy"

It's great to have our entire governmental system hinge on the fleeting whims of an old man with a Propecia addiction and a boner for Putin.

Re: “Why Teachers Are Leaving (And New Teachers Aren't Replacing Them)

You talk about society turning against teachers, class sizes, performance testing -- but not the biggest problem in education today ... disengaged parents who demand that teachers do their jobs for them.

Parental responsibility - a necessary force in student education - is largely non existent today.

Re: “The Skinny

"Does John McCain still have it in him to drive the final stake through the undead heart of this vampiric legislation?"

What do you know? It appears that he does.

With reference to who knows what is in which law or which bill, it is clear that not only does our loser POTUS not have any idea (a) what is in Graham-Cassidy or any of the other so-called "repeal and replace" bills or (b) what is in the Affordable Care Act, he also (c) has no idea what health insurance is. Here are two descriptions he has given of his understanding of health insurance:

"So pre-existing conditions are a tough deal. Because you are basically saying from the moment the insurance, youre 21 years old, you start working and youre paying $12 a year for insurance, and by the time youre 70, you get a nice plan.

Insurance is, youre 20 years old, you just graduated from college, and you start paying $15 a month for the rest of your life and by the time youre 70, and you really need it, youre still paying the same amount and thats really insurance."

It is obvious that our loser POTUS thinks health insurance works like life insurance. It is apparent that he has never had to worry about whether the doctor he wanted to see was included in his insurance company's network. He has never had to worry about a deductible or a copay. He has absolutely no idea how ANYTHING within this general subject works.

Re: “White Doesn't Make Right

Nathan K, of the three court decisions you described, all of them were so removed from the actual decisions as to make it difficult to determine which decisions you were describing. The last one was only recognizable because it pertained to the subject of the article above. I would challenge you to locate the phrase "raza studies" in the judge's opinion.

Honestly, with reference to the first decision you describe, I have no idea which decision you are attempting to describe. At all.

A hero ain't nothing but a sandwich. And judging by the size of him, Raul the Fool could down a half dozen of them easy.

Re: “Grijalva Arrested Protesting Trump's Immigration Policies

Raul Grijalva is a hero! He not only talks the talk, he walks the walk. In this case, he sits-in.
He offers up his own comforts for the betterment of others.
He is the most selfless, brave, committed person in politics.

Re: “McCain: "I Cannot in Good Conscience Vote for Graham-Cassidy"

When Obamacare implodes and many, many, many lose coverage (not just for pre-existing conditions), I want to see who still applauds McCain as a hero. Making health insurance a state-level issue would have better served people as a one-size-fits-all policy fits the population about as well as a garment of the same description. Be very careful what you wish for; you just might get it.

Re: “Grijalva Arrested Protesting Trump's Immigration Policies

Grijalva, Gutierrez, etc. are motivated by one concern - increasing the number of their co-ethnics in this country to increase the voting power of their ethnic group. In no sense do they work for the good of the nation as a whole. They are tribal leaders who work to advance the interests of their tribe, and they are explicit about this.

Re: “Grijalva Arrested Protesting Trump's Immigration Policies

Raul Grijalva is a man of principle. Those who vilify him apparently do not understand that the American Revolution and its resulting Constitution and later the Bill of Rights were reactions against government that was inhumane and no at all considerate of human values and their protections.

Is it disorderly conduct to participate in a demonstration against government policy? No. Is is "Disorderly Conduct" to disrupt traffic by sitting down in a road and hold a sign. Where does free expression and "order" intersect is a question for the courts based on a case to case basis in many instances.

I, as a newly cognoscente democrat, dropping my Republican affiliation a few years back, do not agree with Raul all the time, but admire the direction in which he leads. Staying aware of our freedoms and the direction in which the Trump Republicans would lead often needs to be highlighted with action.. Which action and participation is an individual choice and this action on his part shows he is both compassionate, and hints he is aware of what appears to be a major breach of the emoluments clause of the Consitution.

Re: “Beneath the Surface

Climate Change is a complete hoax consisting of three intellectual frauds.

First, they have falsified total ice volumes of the earth by loading total ice measurements with obscure gravitational models masquerading as ice measurement.

Laser models, by far the most accurate method of measuring ice, show total ice volumes of the planet's ice shelves at or close to all-time records.

If the ice shelves are at or close to all-time records, the measurement of the oceans also has to be fraudulent. How was this fraud done? Again, obscure modeling to show the ocean floors sinking at a rapid pace. If the ocean's surface isn't rising, that's where they hide the non-existent water- in the volume created by a falling ocean floor.

The final fraud is in temperature measurement. The temperature modeling of the First International Panel on Climate Change ended up at the fifth percentile of the model's projection. Meaning, of course, the model lacked validity. A model and a hypothesis that can't predict or explain the past is really worthless at predicting the future. They were able to solve this problem by changing past weather temperature records. They went back and reduced historically recorded temperatures sufficiently to be able to declare current records "all-time highs."

Our current planet temperatures are not statistically different than the originally recorded temperatures.

I am sure that most readers find it inconceivable that a fraud this elaborate, sustained and outrageous could be conducted by our prestigious scientists. However, intellectual frauds in which masses of scientists participate are actually par for the course since research journals began in 1665. Some of these have run for a hundred years. Others have run until the horrific consequences became too glaring to cover up.

It's a philosophy thing. Our western civilization is built around Socrates, Plato and Aristotle formulations for pursuing the truth and pursuing good. Over the last two millennia, that has slowly been replaced with the pursuit of power. Anthropomorphic climate change gives scientists an enormous amount of power over their fellow citizens.

Re: “A Little Late To the 'Patriotically Correct' Party

It is not correct to say that Trump is a white supremacist because it is simply a thing that is not true and there is no evidence to support it. It is irrelevant whether some of the people who supported Trump are themselves racist assholes. I am sure there are some racist assholes who enjoy ice cream but I'm not going to stop eating ice cream in some brain damage delusion that it is racist somehow. So the backlash against the woman who said that Trump is a white supremacist is totally warranted and doesn't actually go far enough because she still has a job and you cannot be allowed to get away with committing slander or libel against people. Whether or not somebody is a white supremacist is not an opinion. Just like it is not an opinion whether stop signs are red or not. Either you are or you are not.

The backlash against the Dixie Chicks was unwarranted. That was one singer expressing her legitimate opinion. Whether or not you agree with that opinion, she is still entitled to have that opinion. It would be wonderful if media and the far left and right wings could ever grasp the difference between a fact and an opinion. Unfortunately critical thinking is no longer taught.

Re: “The Skinny

I received this letter from McCain dated 9-19:

Thank you for contacting me to share your views about health reform. I appreciate knowing your thoughts on this very important topic.

Since the enactment of Obamacare more than seven years ago, Americans across the country continue to see the consequences of this disastrous law. In Arizona alone, the cost of midlevel health insurance plans on Obamacares marketplace increased by 116 percent on average last year. Worse still, before Obamacare, Arizona had 24 insurance companies selling plans on the individual market. Today, there are just two companies and 14 of Arizonas 15 counties have just one insurer. That is not what President Obama promised when this bill was signed into law, and why the status quo is simply unacceptable.

As you may know, earlier this year I voted against the so-called skinny repeal amendment because it would not have accomplished what I have been promising Arizonans for seven years, and that is to repeal and replace Obamacare. While the amendment would have repealed some of Obamacares most burdensome regulations, it offered no replacement to actually reform our health care system and deliver affordable, quality health care to our citizens.

As we move forward, it is critical that Congress not make the mistakes of the past that has led to Obamacares collapse, including in my home state of Arizona where premiums are skyrocketing and health care providers are fleeing the marketplace. We must now return to the correct way of legislating and send the bill back to committee, hold hearings, receive input from both sides of aisle, heed the recommendations of our nations governors, and produce a bill that finally delivers affordable health care for the American people. Ultimately, the final product must be based around the fundamental value of freedom, and Obamacare is not.

Thank you again for writing to me. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other comments or questions.

John McCain
United States Senator

Re: “The Skinny

They have a history of "passing the bill so they can read it." Many of our elected officials are not serving American citizens. Why would that be?

At least Donald Trump is.
