Re: “Soundbites

I caught them live at the Tucson Garden in '89. Don't remember much from that show, just that they were great live. It would be cool see them again. Might have to go to this one.

Re: “Soundbites

I didn't know him as Bill Wooldridge, but as Patch. He was the friendly guy in the part of our West University neighborhood that is populated by musicians. He quickly became a good friend to our family. Patch will be missed by so many people. A true loss in for the Tucson music scene, and anyone who thinks that reaching out to kids is how we should spend our lives.

Re: “Soundbites

Since when is there 3 veteran members of the Commodores? Last I seen then it was 2 Walter Orange and William King. Unless your talking Lionel's replacement as a veteran? Whats his name?

Re: “Soundbites

That's a very interesting opinion about Switchfoot. Growing up listening to them, I always thought it was so obvious that Switchfoot was a Christian band by their music, and I knew that most Christians would agree that their song meanings are quite plainly Christian, but I guess that that's from a Christian perspective since we're looking for it. I suppose, after having read this, that from many of their lyrics it is difficult to tell that they are a "Christian band," whatever that means haha.

Re: “Soundbites

I'm sure Steve was referring the the very rare 1991 Tyranny for Lovelyville album that the two bands collaborated on.

Re: “Soundbites

FYI- Ben played Congress before the fair, and we had a great time. The fair show was in a tent, the PA sucked at the Rock, and even though I mixed monitors at that one too, the mains were half blown by showtime (Frank Black was really happy to see me there because he arrived 15 minutes before his set but knew he would sound great). Ben's last appearance in T-town was opening for Tori Amos at AVA, where he mentioned me and Congo as being his only good experiences, suggesting perhaps his decision not to return...

Re: “Soundbites

Good for Alice Cooper and the other stars for taking part in this worthy cause. Glad he's back out annoying parents again. Cooper dreamed up the name for his group based on the idea of “a cute, sweet little girl with a hatchet behind her back.”

On my Rockaeology blog at I tell the story behind “School’s Out.” Cooper said, “When we did "School's Out," I knew we had just done the national anthem. I've become the Francis Scott Key of the last day of school… It nailed the experience of being released from an educational institution, that elated feeling of freedom, and kids everywhere got it.”

Re: “Soundbites

"For a full rundown of all the happenings at this family-friendly event, head to" The website is a joke. It actually has less information than the the blurb here in TW-except a link to parking. It has the name of 4 bands that are appearing but that's it. You can always catch live music downtown so what makes 2nd Saturday's special? You won't find out on that website.

Re: “Soundbites

By the way, I managed to catch Maya Caballero on Al Perry's "Clambake" radio show on KXCI over the internet. Al played fantastic New Orleans Blues. What a great combination. Not to be missed on Monday nights from 10PM - midnight (!

Re: “Soundbites

I have a question about AVA. The last time Santana played there, I got the best seat I could get and went to the concert. During the concert, one of their very rude security folks threatened to confiscate my binoculars or kick me out if I didn't put them away. I am 63 years old and don't see as well as I once did. I haven't been back. Can anyone give a reason why an outdoor concert arena would have a rule banning binoculars? I have asked several times and sent emails and a letter to AVA and received NO replies. I now limit myself to Desert Diamond, which has no such ridiculous policy. I have been to concerts all over the country and have never encountered this before. A search of the AVA website has found no such rule, yet security seems bound to enforce it. I would appreciate any information about this "rule". I am missing many great concerts (Tony Bennett) and don't like driving to Phoenix, but I cannot support any venue who treats its customers in this way.

Re: “Soundbites

Appreciate the info about all the bands playing every week but don't you think you could display it in less crowded, more readable way?
