Reader's Pick: This station (and its predecessor, KCUB, 1290-AM) have dominated the ratings in Tucson for more than 40 years. The Beatles came and went, as did disco, punk, grunge and "The Pina Colada Song." But country rules in Tucson and KIIM rules country. Max and Mary provide a lively start to your mornings, and the rest of the day there's a nice mix of the old and the new (although we sorely lament the recent loss of old-school KCUB to an all-sports-talk format). The corny KIIM Country Café at the lunch hour serves up requests along with the cringe-inducing banter about grits and chicken-fried steak. Nevertheless, it's KIIM uber alles.
Reader's Poll Runner-Up: Cat Country, 97.5-FM. More music, less talk. Lots and lots of music, but a tighter playlist than KIIM. For the nouveau country listener who needs a Dixie Chicks fix at least once an hour.
Of Mythic Proportions: Coyote Country, 92.9-FM. Yet another clod kicker station! They multiply like rabbits. Gives away stuff. One of our homies won concert on Coyote. You'da thought she won a new car.
