An extremely messy man and his female companion were taken to jail for allegedly stealing a Chevrolet Trailblazer, a UA Police Department report said.
A UAPD officer responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle at Second Street and Cherry Avenue, where he found an empty Chevrolet Trailblazer with Sonora, Mexico, license plates. He then opened the unlocked door and checked the vehicle identification number, which turned out to belong to a stolen Arizona vehicle.
Inside the vehicle, the officer found a Cricket cellphone and food and drink items spilled on the floor and seats. The search also turned up a syringe behind the passenger seat and a blood smear on the right-rear passenger door. Food and personal items littered the ground around the vehicle, which was described as "destroyed by old food and clothes."
Other officers detained a woman who appeared to have been fleeing the scene. She told them that earlier that day she'd met a man she didn't know who was driving the Trailblazer. She said she saw the man again while she was walking to the downtown Pima Community College campus and accepted a ride from him.
She said the man bragged about having "busted up" (stolen) the car and numerous other things.
The woman said the car ran out of gas, and she walked to get more while the man went in a different direction. When she returned and saw police, she said, she became afraid.
Officers found the man nearby. He denied any connection to the Trailblazer but was found in possession of marijuana, a syringe containing residue, a stolen debit card and purse, and numerous tools.
The man and the woman were booked on suspicion of car theft.

A woman was caught stealing female vanity items that she apparently saw as essential to her life—or at least her social identity—according to a Pima County Sheriff's Department report.
A deputy responded to a foothills-area Walmart, where a sobbing woman was in custody. A security guard said she had been caught walking up and down the store aisles and putting makeup and hair-care items in her purse.
The woman nodded her head at the guard's description of the events and said that she "really, really needed" the items—especially foundation, which was too expensive for her. "I just needed makeup and didn't have enough money," the report quoted her as saying. "I got what I needed." The stolen items were valued at $69.57.
The woman was cited on suspicion of shoplifting and released.
