Best Flavor-Filled Evening

Hot Rod-O-Rama

STAFF PICK: Held late every spring on the block of Congress Street that houses the Hotel Congress and the Rialto Theater, Hot Rod-O-Rama is an evening-long event for greasers, gear-heads, rockabilly fans, pin-up beauty queen wannabes and just about anyone who is covered with tattoos or wishes they were. The brainchild of the Rialto Theater's Jeb Schoonover, and helped along by KXCI DJ and gear-head Hot Rod Ron, the event boasts an impressive line-up of local and national rockabilly bands on three stages, a hot rod show in the street featuring cars from local and national car clubs, a pin-up contest to crown "Miss Hot Rod-O-Rama," a tattoo contest, merchandise booths, the latest in sideburn fashions, beer concessions and primo people-watching opportunities. If you ever fantasize about being a Jet, or living next door to the Cunninghams in Milwaukee, slick back your pomp and head out to Hot Rod-O-Rama.
