Opening This Week

ARIZONA THEATRE COMPANY. Temple of Music and Art. 330 S. Scott Ave. Previewing April 27 through May 2, opening May 3 and continuing through May 18: Private Eyes, a suspense comedy about the fantasy of lust and the reality of love. A theatre mixer begins with a catered reception at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1. Performance follows at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15. Reservations required. PRIMAL RE-EMERGENCE. Primal Re-Emergence, otherwise known as The Return of Foo Foo the Snoo, a free performance art event, begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in front of the Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave. The evening's events include multi-ethnic dance and experimental music by Owen Slue, mime, sculpture, photography and an appearance by Bloog, an inflatable sculpture. Pieces range from comic to foreboding. There's a children's workshop at 2 p.m. Sponsored by T/PAC, UA College of Fine Arts and Dance Dept. and endorsed by the Tucson Arts district. SPRING PLAY FESTIVAL. UA Theatre Arts. Directing Studio 116. Drama West Building. UA campus, south end of the pedestrian underpass on Speedway east of Park Avenue. 621-7008. The UA Theatre Arts Department hosts its Spring One-Act Play Festival April 25 through 27. The festival features 12 student-directed one-act plays, of which three are presented during each scheduled performance time. Curtain is 7:30 p.m., with a 1 o'clock matinee Saturday, April 27. TAP-IT! Put on your tap shoes and shuffle to Invisible Theatre's Tap-IT, a fun(d)raising Tap-A-Thon, from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Doubletree Hotel, 445 S. Alvernon Way. Event hosts dancers and "wanna-be" dancers of all ages, food, fun and music. Participants raising $50 or more in sponsorships receive a free t-shirt and two free tickets to the event. ATC U.K. TOUR '96. Tour the United Kingdom Arizona Theatre-style, with an eight-day theatrical tour scheduled for July 13 through 31, hosted by London Arts Discovery Tours. The trip includes six nights in London and two nights in Stratford-upon-Avon. Scheduled theatre performances include: Boublil and Schonberg's Martin Guerre, the Royal Court Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Travelers stay at the Waldorf Hotel and take in sights throughout London, including the recently restored Globe Theatre. AUDITION NOTICE. Gaslight Theatre announces auditions for its summer production of Forever Gnatman!, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at 7010 E. Broadway. Roles are available for 5 men and 3 women. AUDITION NOTICE. Arizona Rose Theatre seeks performers for its 1996-97 season, to include three musicals between October and February. All auditions are Saturday, April 27, at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott Ave. Times are as follows: children ages 9 to 14 years, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; adults 2 to 5 p.m.; and call-backs at 6:30 p.m. Singers and strong character actors are needed. Singers prepare 16 measures of chorus to sing a cappella or with a tape. Actors prepare a contemporary monologue no longer than three minutes and plan for a cold reading. No phone calls please.

AUDITION NOTICE. Open auditions for a short film meet from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave., in the lower level conference room.
