SAN PEDRO CLEAN-UP. The Southwest Center for Biological Diversity sponsors a San Pedro River Clean-up Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28. Help remove trash from one of Arizona's last free flowing rivers. Call 733-1391 for directions or to arrange car pools.

PARK RE-OPENING. Celebrate the re-opening of Tubac Presidio State Park at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27. Tour the museum, browse archaeological exhibits, sit in the old schoolhouse and use the picnic area. Fees are waived during the day. The park is located in the southeast corner of Tubac. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Regular admission is $2, $1 for teens, with children under 12 years free with adult. Call (520) 398-2252 for information.

NATURE CONSERVANCY. Visit the Nature Conservancy's Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Visitor Center and enjoy bird watching, guided tours and hikes. Regular preserve hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Take Highway 82 to Patagonia, head west on Fourth Avenue, and south on Pennsylvania. Call 394-2400 for information.

DIG IT. Old Pueblo Archaeology Center, a non-profit agency, offers public archaeological field school sessions at Sabino Canyon Ruin, home of Hohokam Indians 700-900 years ago. The program features instruction in archaeological excavation techniques, artifact recovery and care, and interpreting ancient cultures. Lunch is provided. Cost is $69 per 8-hour day with discounts offered to groups and multiple day sign-ups. Reservations required 2 days in advance. Call 798-1201 for reservations and information.

NATURAL HISTORY LECTURES. A series of natural history lectures are offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the month of May at Santa Rita Lodge in Madera Canyon. Cost is $15 per lecture and includes a light lunch. Reservations required. Take I-19 South to Exit 63. Follow the signs to Madera Canyon. Call (520) 625-8746 for reservations and information.

ARCHAEOLOGY TOURS. The Center for Desert Archaeology offers half-day and full-day tours of the Romero Ruin in Catalina State Park and rock art tours of sites near Tucson. Contact Connie Allen-Bacon at 881-2244 for more information on tours. Individual, group and corporate rates are available.

TOHONO CHUL PARK. 7366 N. Paseo del Norte. 742-6455. Tohono Chul Park grounds are open from 7 a.m. to sunset daily. Exhibit hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2. Join the free xeriscape tour at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18. Learn how to take the heat in Surviving the Sizzle at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, in the Wilson Room. Lecture is $2, free to members, and reservations are required. Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. 2021 N. Kinney Road. 883-2702. The museum is part botanical garden, part geology museum and part zoological park. Naturalistic settings house 1,386 plant species and 317 animal species. Live animal visits, botanical and raptor interpretations are given daily. Spend a night at the museum and watch the sunset through filtered telescopes in Starry, Starry Night, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18, and ending at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 19. Cost is $12 adult with children, and $4 per child. RSVP by May 11. Museum hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays May through September. Admission is $8.95 ages 13 and over, and $1.75 ages 6 through 12. Discount group rates are available.
