Buffalo Exchange 2001 E. Speedway 7045 E. Tanque Verde Road READERS' AND STAFF PICK: Some of us have been shopping at "the Buff" since we were grade-school kids, back then the store was behind Eric's Ice Cream, on Warren Street and Speedway. Hot items were gauze wrap skirts and Joe Webb T-shirts. After moves and changes, Buffalo Exchange has settled into two Tucson locations, one central, the other out east. Central Buff occupies the building that could've won the Best New Store Front category, if we had one, for its large, consecutive windows, consistently displaying big dummies sheathed to the nines. Inside, the fun is knowing you won't have to plow through racks and racks of the same merchandise. There are a few items sold retail and in quantity---mostly accessories, but also reasonably priced clothing. Buff out east has the same shtick, but you'll find more professional clothes out there. Buffalo Exchange, at either location, has the pleasant buzz of hustle-bustle, as buyers buy and sellers sell from both sides of the counter. Even with more and bigger dressing rooms there is still the occasional wait, suggesting Buffalo Exchange has surpassed the test of time. READERS' POLL RUNNER-UP: The "value" in the name says it all. We shop at Value Village, 300 N. Fourth Ave., because it's cheap and the turnover on merchandise is fast. We remember when they used to have clearance sales to deplete stock--shirts were 10 cents and pants a quarter. Most of your favorite, one-of-a-kind clothing is from here--the garments people notice, the shoes you left under the bed at your first girlfriend's house, the jacket your roommate took when he moved to Oregon. It's also the best place to take that trash bag full of old clothes you've kept out in the shed.
