Best New York-Style Cheesesteak

STAFF PICK: We may start a war, between fans of Philadelphia, Chicago and New York. But Tony's New York-Style Italian Deli on the north side of 22nd Street, west of Wilmot Road, has the best cheesesteak in town. Maybe it's the smell of the drying links of sausage hanging over the deli counter, filled with house-made marinated mushrooms, artichokes and briny olives. Maybe it's the hand-made linguica, Polish, cheese-parsley sausage, and beef and pork bracciola rolled and stuffed. But when Tony's puts the peppers and onions on the grill to sauteé, followed by wafer-thin cuts of marinated top round steak that crisp just at the edges, you know you're going to get some real food. They put this all on crispy-crusted sub roll, with just a bit of very smooth, herbaceous marinara sauce, and then melt some of the fresh mozzarella Tony made the day before. There's nothing around that beats this. Tony's New York Style Italian Deli is at 6219 E. 22nd Street.
