Best Drive-In Burger

STAFF PICK: Yes, it is possible to get a great traditional drive-in burger in Tucson. None of this formula franchise stuff. Shari's Drive-In has been in operation since 1953. Owners have changed, but the quality of the burger remains the same. The secrets are simple: 100 percent real beef is all there is in this burger. Fast food places might use 100 percent real beef, too, but then they add an astounding percentage of oatmeal. That's why most chain burgers have the same texture as their buns. And speaking of buns, Shari's are delivered fresh daily from a local mom-and-pop bakery and grilled 'til they're toasty. Lettuce, tomato and onions are purchased fresh by the crate, no salad in a bag here. A basic meaty burger is only $1.45, and you can double, triple or quadruple it at a very low cost. Watch for specials and combos. Shari's is at 2650 N. First Ave., the red and white place that still looks like an old drive-in.
