Performances This Week
Listings WINTER CONCERT. UA Gittings Dance Theatre, north of McKale Center, just west of Campbell Avenue. The University of Arizona Dance Ensemble performs their Winter Concert in four performances: 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, December 4 through 6. There are two different programs; the Thursday and Saturday evening performances feature Bernstein's Reply, a modern piece choreographed by Amy Ernst; Blackbird, a jazz piece by Susan Quinn and Fault Boundaries, by guest choreographer Walter Kennedy. The Friday evening and Saturday matinee performances include the Grand Pas de Deux from "The Nutcracker"; The Kissing Waltz, a humorous look at romance by Nina Janik; and Eye Candy, a snapping tap piece. Tickets are $8, $6 students/seniors, available at the Fine Arts box office (621-1162) or at the door. The UA Ensemble performs again on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 9 and 10. AFRICAN DANCE. 121 E. Seventh St. Learn the movements of dance from Guinea, Senegal, Nigeria, and Afro-Brazilian and Cuban regions with teacher Denise Hawthorne Bey. You'll also learn the intricacies of the music, and the traditional songs and their meanings. Classes meet at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. BALLROOM DANCING. Dance to live music from 8 to 11 p.m. Wednesdays at Let's Dance Club, 6245 E. Bellevue. Singles and couples of all skill levels are welcome. Experience a touch of sophistication and romance with theme-dress occasions and a large, decorated ballroom.
