BIODIVERSITY WALKS. Enjoy our beautiful fall weather when Southwest Center for Biological Diversity "Biodiversity Walks" resume on Sunday, October 5 and 19. Join Center staff and expert guests for a walk along Tucson's wetland treasure, Cienega Creek. Learn about the importance of riparian habitats for wildlife and water quality, and the implications of grazing management. Expect a two-mile walk over two-three hours. FALL HIKE SERIES. The Friends of the San Pedro River, the Bureau of Land Management, and the San Pedro Riparian national Conservation Area present their Fall Hike Series. All hikes will be led by a trained guide, and are a great opportunity to learn about local history, animals, plants, and birds along the San Pedro River. On October 4, Hike to the Wild West town of Charleston. This strenuous, five-mile hike leaves at 8 a.m. from the Charleston Road parking area. Hikers are asked to bring a minimum of one-quart of water, food, hat, sunglasses, binoculars and a camera, if desired. Hikes are not appropriate for pets or young children. Listings OUTDOORS CONFIDENCE. Go fishing at Silverbell Lake from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 4. Outdoor Confidence provides all equipment and bait, as well as professional instruction. Cost is $7 per student. Call 884-9394 for reservations and information.

SABINO CANYON RUIN. Take an easy hike to view archaeologists' excavations at the Sabino Canyon Ruin with guides from the Old Pueblo Archaeology Center from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 4. The Sabino Canyon Ruin was a thriving Hohokam Indian village between 1000 and 1350 A.D. Cost is $10, $2 for kids ages 6 through 12. Call 798-1201 for reservations and meeting place location. TW
