Listings AFRICAN DANCE. Learn the movements of dance from Guinea, Senegal, Nigeria and Afro-Brazilian and Cuban regions with teacher Denise Hawthorne Bey. You'll also learn the intricacies of the music, and the traditional songs and their meanings. Classes meet at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Cost is $10 general, $8 for students, and $5 for kids grades K through 12. The location of the classes has recently changed. Call 623-8231 for new location information.

ARGENTINE TANGO. Mara Carlson teaches Argentine tango, Milonga and Vals, for beginning to advanced students. Beginning classes meet 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at the On Broadway Dance Studio, 7036 E. Broadway, and 3 to
4:30 p.m. Sundays in Room 4 of the Ina Gittings Building on the UA Mall, West of Campbell. Intermediate/Advanced classes meet Sundays 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Room 4 of the Gittings building. The cost is $10 for the Thursday evening Beginning class, $15 for the Sunday Beginners' class and the Intermediate/Advanced class. Private lessons are also available. Call 791-3073 for information.

ARGENTINE TANGO. John Dahlstrand and Kathy Miller teach Argentine tango from 3 to 5 p.m. every Saturday. Classes meet on the UA campus in the Ina Gittings Building, Room 130. All experience levels are welcome and private classes are available. The cost for group classes is $5 per class. Call 622-5095 for information.

BALLET LESSONS. 61 E. Congress St., upstairs. Classes are for all levels, and meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Focus on strength, flexibility, alignment and precision. Cost is $7. Call 408-1172 for information.

BALLROOM DANCING. Dance to live music from 8 to 11 p.m. Wednesdays at Let's Dance Club, 6245 E. Bellevue. Singles and couples of all skill levels are welcome. Experience a touch of sophistication and romance with theme-dress occasions and a large, decorated ballroom. Cost is $7, $5 for members, which includes a free, professional dance lesson from 7 to 8 p.m. Annual membership is $25. Call 885-4599 for information.

DANCE AND DRUMS. The Barbea Williams Performing Company offers classes in Pre-African and Pre-Ballet for children; African Brazilian/West African, African Cuban/West African, and West African drum lessons for teens and adults. Registration is on-going. Call 628-7785 for information.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS DANCE. Jon McNamara holds ongoing workshops in movement through November, focusing on training a core group of dancers to act as a spirit group for the annual Día de los Muertos processional. Workshops focus on accessing free and natural expression through the body as aided by imagery and awareness exercises within the theme of the event. All skill levels are invited. Workshops are from 6:30 to
8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, and from 4 to 6 p.m. Sundays, at The Datura Studios, 31 E. Toole Ave. A commitment through the projects' completion on November 7 is required. Call Jon at 321-0493 for information.

INTERMEDIATE MODERN DANCE. 61 E. Congress St., upstairs. Explore a multiplicity of modern dance techniques with NEW ART company member Leigh Ann Rangel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays. Cost is $7. IRISH SET-DANCE AND CEILI. Tucson Friends of Traditional Music and The Irish American Gaelic Society present an Irish Set-Dance workshop, taught by Kelly Skehen, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 29, at the Zenith Center, 330 W. Seventh St. Cost is $20, which includes admission to the evening dance from 8 to 11 p.m. at the TMA Cabaret Theatre, 330 S. Scott Ave. Cost for the dance alone is $6.

LINDY-HOP & SWING. Armory Park Senior Center. 220 S. Fifth Ave. Brian Fabig and Irene Stojanov--Arizona Lindy Hop Society performers and 1998 Arizona Open Swing Champions--teach Beginning/Intermediate Jitterbug at 11 a.m., and Beginning Lindy Hop at noon, on Sunday, September 6. Cost is $8 per class. All ages are welcome, and no partner is needed.

WEST COAST SWING. Tucson Swing Dance Club. 6245 E. Bellevue St. 573-3732. Get in the swing of things at the Tucson Swing Dance Club every Thursday evening. Lessons are from 7 to 7:45 p.m. for beginners, and 7:45 to 8:30 p.m. for intermediate dancers. General dancing continues until 10:30 p.m. No partner necessary. Cost is $3, $2 for members.
