PARTY LIKE IT'S 1776: It's that time of year when we celebrate kicking the bloody Brits back across the Atlantic and thank our founding fathers for delivering us from a parasitic, inbred royal family and a lifetime of eel pie and bangers.

The Bros. Dupree invite you to celebrate your right to party on Thursday, the Fourth of July, at Berky's, 424 N. Fourth Ave.

"We'll be playing sexy music for sexy people," says Nepharious Dupree (a.k.a. Clif Taylor and Chick Cashman). "It's a cock-rock tribute--louder and more aggressive than Chick Cashman."

Joining Nepharious will be Ulysses Dupree and Cornelius Dupree and they promise various and sundry surprises. (Scantily-clad women in wigs perhaps?) Tidy Paws will be along for the ride, playing sax with the Bros. on a few numbers.

As if that weren't enough to make you see bombs bursting in air, The Napkins--Thermos Malling, Jaime Amor, Mel Couger, and Johnny Balls--reunite after a four-year hiatus. "We've been practicing and we sound better than ever," says Amor.

Subsequent projects by the Napkins include Doo Rag, Mondo Guano, Johnny Balls & the Vibro Thunderballs, The Pork Torta, Hardbod, Duarte Six and Curse of the Pink Hearse--not bad for one band.

"After the fireworks, come see the fire," entreats the seductive Nepharious.

The show begins at 10 p.m. and cover is $3.Call 622-0376 if you need more information.

You'll be glad to learn former Let's Active guitarist/keyboardist and sometime singer Angie Carlson didn't give up music after Let's Active disbanded in 1989. Since then, Carlson's musical energy has been expressed through Grover, a power pop trio having more in common with The Replacements than the "Chapel Hill" sound. Bassist Mike Gonzales and drummer Jeremy Vogt provide solid background for Carlson's wailing guitar and hard-hitting vocals.

Grover is scheduled for a stop at Club Congress on Sunday, July 7, playing songs from the critically acclaimed My Wild Life. Show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets are only $2 at the door. Call 622-8848 if you need to know more.

Local favorite Royal Crown Revue returns to rock Club Congress on Friday, July 12. Tickets are $6 in advance, available at the club, and $8 day of show. Call 622-8848 for more information. TW
