Everyone’s guilty of checking their Facebook feed or responding to a text that could wait until you’re done operating a two ton for wheel death mobile. Sometimes we forget how life threatening it is to check your phone while you drive, and that’s why Michael James Woody Jr. is our “Don’t be that driver” of the day.

Michael James Woody Jr., 23, of Fort Myers, was cited for careless driving and texting while driving after crashing and rolling his car on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. At the time, he was being followed by an FMPD officer due to his erratic driving, according to a crash report from the department.

  1. Sadly and frighteningly, this guy is just the tip of the iceberg as far as texting and other cell phone use goes while driving. Luckily no one seems to have been harmed in this incident. I guess he’ll start texting again as soon as his car is uprighted and the sting of a fine wears off. Simply watch FROM ONE SECOND TO THE NEXT by the great film director Werner Herzog to see the other side of texting while driving. It’s easy to find on the internet.
Final note, I hope this guys dreads weren’t too mussed up.

  2. The Department of Transportation, among other bodies and the general public at large, is concerned about texting while driving, which is very dangerous. Most states have texting while driving laws which which prevents it form happening, but the DOT has thrown $550,000 toward researching whether such regulations have an impact. So far, police in a number of states have not been able to catch too many people who are texting while driving though most are still likely doing it. We might need some cash advance to be able to pay for the tickets or the damages. As a citizen, we must be responsible enough to be following all sorts of rules and regulations before it is too late.
