Nan Stockholm Walden has called her Congressional District 2 race following Ron Barber’s announcement that he would seek the office in the fall. Walden’s statement:
After consideration and discussion with my family, I have chosen not to run for the Congressional District 2 seat at this time.
I want to thank the many friends, both old and new, that have sent me expressions and commitments of support. It is indeed heart warming. Campaigns come and go, but friendships last a lifetime.
I am looking forward to continuing my work in the public and private sector on behalf of Arizona. I plan as well to work hard to get Rich Carmona and Ron Barber elected, and for Raúl Grijalva’s re-election. While all elections are important, this year we have an unparalleled opportunity to move Arizona away from the divisive extremist politics of the last few years and elect representatives in the mold of Barry Goldwater, Dennis DeConcini, Mo Udall and Gabby Giffords that collaborate on behalf of our entire state.

Remember when Barry Goldwater and “Mo” Udall put aside party politics to get legislation passed which benefitted Arizona! What a concept.
Yes, the exception here being to step aside so someone the party has “anointed” can have the spot unchallenged. An unproven behind the scenes type person with NO experience and nothing but the “sympathy vote” to propel him.
He will NOT get my vote based on sympathy or party anointment. The Democrats have many folks who are much more qualified with the exception of having a “backbone” to stand up to their own party.
