Rosalia Asig Chó, founder of the Women's Weaving Cooperative in Guatemala, discusses her experiences and interprets the symbols used in weaving in her community on the evening of Saturday, August 3. CALL TO POETS AND ARTISTS. Bero Gallery and The Shane House seek submissions by poets and artists for the second annual Poetry Gallery exhibition, juried by Trudy Wilner Stack, Curator of Collections at the Center for Creative Photography. Works must aesthetically and conceptually balance elements of poetry and visual art. SHOT IN THE ARM. Kino Community Hospital. 2800 E. Ajo Way. Getting school immunizations is kinda fun and totally free from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, at Kino Hospital. Children must be accompanied by a parent and have shot records with them. Free health and nutrition screenings for kids and parents are also offered. The fun part is the face painting, clowns and snacks. Kids will also get a chance to see the inside of an ambulance and have their fingers cast just to see what it feels like. SURVIVALSKILLS. The Tucson-Pima Libraries are offering Middle School Survival Workshops for kids August 2 through 9. These free, one day workshops cover peer pressure, friendship, decision making, personal safety, emotional and physical changes and locker strategy. Workshops are from 1 to 4:45 p.m. and are at Tucson-Pima Libraries throughout town. Call you local library for information.

STAR STRUCK. Flandrau Science Center. UA Campus. 621-STAR. Watch as our Solar System comes alive with a host of endangered animal friends guiding the way in Our Place In Space, screening at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday. Continuing through August 9, this show introduces kids ages 8 and under to the magic of our universe. Children ages 9 to 11 learn what makes up our Solar System in The Friendly Stars, screening at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday. See what really lives in an aquarium (besides the fish) with Flandrau's new hands-on exhibit, The World Within . There are many other new exhibits to see and try. Exhibits are free with admission. MOON WALK. The Valley of the Moon. 2544 E. Allen Road, north of Prince Road, east of Tucson Boulevard. Take a leisurely stroll through the pathways, caverns, pools and gardens of the Valley of the Moon from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 7. Parents' Corner

THE PARENT CONNECTION. The Parent Connection, 5326 E. Pima St., provides families with educational and support services. The parent/child program allows parents to play together while encouraging the overall development of the child. Learn how to better set limits and nurture young children. Facilities include a library and indoor/outdoor play area, as well as a family-friendly referral index to community resources.
