Through late November, the Etherton Gallery is presenting the works of Jim Waid and Lawrence Gipe with Instars and Casbah Noir. Opening the 2025-2026 season, the exhibit features each artist’s exploration of landscapes, representation and cultural identity. The inclusion of these works speaks to the gallery’s interest in contemporary conversations and the voices of the southwest. Coupled with Alejandro Macias’ “In the Cases,” each of the three artists have deep ties with the University of Arizona School of Art.

Tribute to Frida Kahlo

The De La Vega Gallery is celebrating Dia de Los Muertos and the life of the talented Frida Kahlo. Guests and other community members are free to contribute their own photos, mementos, and offerings to the Community Ofrenda. The local and regional artists’ installations feature paintings and sculptures that explore themes of memory, ritual and identity. On Saturday Nov. 8, Tucson-based dance company ZUZI! Dance will perform excerpts from “Blood and Gold” — inspired by Kahlo’s life and work.

Barn Dance Fundraiser

Tucson Village Farm’s Barn Dance Fundraiser features farm chili, beer and wine and dancing under the stars. For the less experienced, the team is including a line dancing lesson to get everyone started. The event will also feature performances from the Rillito River Band, as well as boots, denim and overalls crafted by local artists that will be up for auction.

Gallery Fall Showcase

The Tucson Fine Mineral Gallery (TFMG) will present its fall showcase from Nov. 14 to Nov. 16. TFMG is home to high-end mineral dealers across the globe, offering a space to enjoy an expansive collection of minerals and gemstones. There will also be refreshments available on site at the Crystal Courtyard Cafe and Bar.

The Fab Four: Tribute to the Beatles

The Fab Four are a tribute band dedicated to capturing the look and sound of iconic British pop band, The Beatles. The groups’ 2025 tour begins with a celebration of The Beatles’ second film, titled “HELP!” The Emmy Award-winning band performs live renditions of “Help!,” “Yesterday,” “A Day In The Life,” “Twist And Shout,” “Here Comes The Sun” and “Hey Jude” among other hits.

‘Lotería: This Game Is No Juego’

Jonathan Heras’ “Lotería: This Game Is No Juego” follows the story of three children from Temperatura County that get sucked into the game of Lotería. El Diablo, his henchmen and other villainous cards attempt to destroy the balance of the magical universe, while cards like La Sirena and El Sol guide the young heroes through various trials of courage, mystery and heart — ultimately trying to stop the antagonists and return home.

Ocotillo Plant in Pot Workshop

Local artist Ray Mendonca will lead a workshop teaching participants how to create a miniature ocotillo plant in a pot. Attendees of all experience levels are welcome and materials are provided for free. Hosted at the The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures, the museum partnered with Southern Arizona Senior Pride to bring the event to the community. Participants must register to attend.

Vailfest

This year marks the 16th annual Vailfest by The Greater Vail Chamber of Commerce. Located at the Pima County Fairgrounds, the event offers 14 food trucks, raffle prizes, live music and entertainment, a parade, the kid’s Adventure zone and over 140 local and regional vendors. Tucson Dusty from the Roadrunner Hockey Team will be in attendance as well, taking photos.

‘No Nos Moverán’

Pierre Saint-Martin Castellanos’ “No Nos Moverán” is a film that follows the story of stubborn lawyer Socorro, as she searches for the soldier that killed her brother in the 1968 student massacre in Tlatelolco. Her need for justice strained her relationship with her sister and her son, Esperanza and Jorge, respectively. After a decade of no leads, she finds the missing clue that leads to her drafting an absurd plan, which demands the risk of her patrimony, family and her life. The title of this Mexican film translates to ‘We Shall Not be Moved.’

Jasper String Quartet

The Arizona Friends of Chamber Music presents the Jasper Spring Quartet at Leo Rich Theater on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The quartet received the Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award in 2012, and hailed by critics as “sonically delightful and expressively compelling.” Its program includes Franz Joseph Haydn’s “String Quartet in D Major, Op. 76, No. 5,” José Castillo’s “Jasper String Quartet 20th Anniversary Commission,” George Walker’s “Lyric for Strings” and Claude Debussy’s “String Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10.”
