Germany’s beloved beer bash will make its return to Tucson with this year’s OktoberFoodieFest at Corbett’s, a collaboration between Tucson Foodie and 6th Ave’s pickleball beer-garden.
“As the new director of events and experiences, and a big fan of the local restaurant and craft beer community, planning the second edition of Oktober Foodie Fest at Corbett’s has been one of the most exciting parts of my new role at Tucson Foodie,” said Ben Andersen, Tucson Foodie director of events and experiences, in a written statement.
“We see Oktoberfoodiefest not just as a standard Oktoberfest party, but as a vehicle to highlight all these local businesses that help make our community great.”
The 21-and-up event will feature brews, food, activities and all-night traditional tunes by accordion player Mark Dansky.
A party thrown by Tucson’s culinary tastemakers would be incomplete without some customary Oktoberfest fare. For the best value, opt for the German Plate: a choice of schnitzel or bratwurst with sauerkraut, and a side of German potato salad or red cabbage salad. Each of these items is also available for individual purchase, alongside pretzels with beer cheese dip and fresh apple strudel.
“This year, we’ve worked hard with the Corbett’s team to improve the efficiency of the food program,” Andersen said. “We’ve structured it with a more streamlined take-and-go process so you can grab all your favorite German specialties and get them over to the new fixings bar to dress up your food just the way you like!”
For those who’d rather not be slowed down by eating, the hub of the evening will be the impressive Craft Beer Garden, which slung pints from 15 different local-favorite breweries in last year’s event.
Leading up to the event, competitive types are well-advised to work on their wardrobes and deltoids, in preparation for the highly contentious stein-holding competition and best-dressed contest. There will also be German-themed team trivia led by Bring The Entertainment AZ. More Oktoberfest games, traditional and nontraditional, are yet to be announced.
The event will be hosted by Ben Vernon, owner of Crooked Tooth Brewing Co.
“For entertainment, I wanted to work with a strong advocate for our amazing local beer and spirit community. When we pitched the idea to Ben Vernon, he was immediately on board! He’ll emcee to keep the evening’s festivities running smoothly, host our stein-holding endurance competition, and guide our best-dressed awards.”
