READERS' AND STAFF PICK: Running to the store to pick up a bag of petfood is not as easy as it sounds, once faced with zillions of selections at this animal super-center. Fortunately, the competent and friendly staff at Petsmart can help you choose what brand and type of food to purchase--and maybe even tell you how to pronounce the brand "Iams." Perhaps because of the store's sheer quantity of food, prices are lower than most competitors' and the selection is wider. Petsmart caters to delicate fish palates with a freezer case of frozen blood worms, beef heart bits and other fishy yum-yums; guinea pigs and their contemporaries may choose between alfalfa in mini-bale or stick form, corn snacks and dried-vegetable treats shaped like raviolis. Birds enjoy a wide variety of seeds and treats, and dogs can find such delicacies as beef-flavored dried pigs' ears. If Noah had stocked up at Petsmart before his big boat ride, he would have kept everyone happy and been set for a longer cruise.
