Best Place Near Downtown To Walk Your Dog

STAFF PICK: The desert behind Morgan Maxwell Middle School is a straight shot up Anklam Road, past Pima Community College. Six minutes ago you were slaving away at your boring job; now you're free! Walk behind the temporary buildings and take the low road (the wash) or the high road. Either way you don't see any houses for about half a mile and you feel sort of like you've just magically stepped into an Abbey novel. No hassle, no strenuous hiking, this is the poor man's desert experience. You can let your dog run wild chasing jack rabbits and coyotes (which they don't let you do in the monuments), 'cause it doesn't really matter here--all the wildlife has already been displaced! Watch out for herds of javelina; they don't mix well with canines. But with housing developments encroaching on all sides, the wildlife sightings are fabulous! We've seen packs of garbage-fed coyotes, bobcats, even two male rattlesnakes intertwined in a fight for ever-diminishing territory! Check this place out soon before someone makes a golf course out of it.
