Best Handpicked Capers From Capri

STAFF PICK: Each summer, Er Pastaro (which means "the pasta maker" in Italian dialect) chef Giovanni Schifano returns to his home on the Isle of Capri. There he clambers the island hills picking the berries of the wild caper bush. He bottles the caper berries in brine and brings those back here at summer's end. Then he and his wife Karen make earthy, simple, artful meals that reinvigorate the senses. The key at Er Pastaro is simplicity itself--great ingredients from Italy, wonderful fresh vegetables and herbs, and cooking that is the riskiest kind, because the food is unadorned and powerful. With Er Pastaro, the Mediterranean comes to the high chaparral--that it's this near is a blessing. Er Pastaro is at 3084 Highway 82 in Sonoita, but it's well worth the drive
