Best Chinese

We regret to say we have no winner or runner-up because of overt ballot stuffing in this category.

STAFF PICK: There are still some constants in the universe--witness Szechuan Omei's Magdelene Gerrish. The friendly wise-cracking owner has been stationed behind her cash register since 1978, and is seldom seen without a plate of her own food within reach. The reasons are obvious; Omei's wide variety of central (Szechuan) and northern (Mandarin) Chinese fare has been consistently excellent for years. The black mushroom with diced chicken is one favorite, served in a heaping portion with a light, tangy sauce. The many styles of soft chow mein are also another highlight, and for more exotic tastes the volcano duck is sure to please. The decor is simple, the service friendly, and Magdelene makes sure the food won't disappoint. Just like always. Szechuan Omei is at 2601 E. Speedway.
