BEAT THE HEAP. Amphi High School Land Lab. 450 E. Wetmore Road. The City of Tucson Solid Waste Management Department and Tucson Organic Gardeners present Beat The Heap, their annual composting extravaganza from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25. This educational program will teach you how to transform kitchen waste and yard trimmings into rich, organic compost. Registration is $6. Listings TOHONO CHUL PARK. 7366 N. Paseo del Norte. 742-6455. Look for the Birds of Tohono Chul, with this docent-led birdwatching tour at 8 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Walk in the Park tours, an overview of the Park's 48 acres and its flora and fauna, are offered at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and at 1 p.m. Sunday. Art in the Park tours, docent-guided looks at gallery exhibits, are at 11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday. The park offers additional guided tours for your enjoyment. Grounds are open from 7 a.m. to sunset daily. Exhibit hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2. GARDENING DEMONSTRATIONS. Free demonstrations are given at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Extension Garden Center, 4210 N. Campbell Ave. On October 29, learn about xeriscape gardening. The last part of the meeting takes time to look at samples of plants brought in for identification, diagnosis and treatment. Demonstrations are held in the open and last about one hour.
