BROWN BAG CONCERTS. Bring along something to munch on and enjoy lunchtime tunes Tucson Arts District style every Tuesday through Thursday. Guitarist Stefan George plays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, at the gazebo at 110 S. Church Ave. in La Placita Plaza; Wednesday, October 2, brings The Blue Monks to the Main Library Plaza, 101 N. Stone Ave., from noon to 1 p.m.; and on Thursday, October 3, guitarist Gerry Glombecki performs at the gazebo in La Placita from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. These concerts are free and open to the public. CHOPIN, SCHUBERT AND MORE. Villa Campana Retirement Residence. 6635 E. Carondlet. 299-1941. Hear the beautiful music of Beethoven, Chopin, Scarlotti and Schubert played by Mrs. Gertrude Gladstone, former music teacher and lecturer at the University of Arizona School of Music, at a free concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 29.

FIRST BASS. Crowder Hall. UA campus, south end of the pedestrian underpass on Speedway east of Park Avenue. Dig the deep sounds of the double bass, played by Patrick Neher, at 8 p.m. Monday, September 30. DAR WILLIAMS PERFORMS. Southwest Center For Music. 2175 N. Sixth Ave. 884-1220. Performer Dar Williams makes a stop in Tucson, with special guest Richard Shindell, at 8 p.m. Friday, September 27. JOYFUL NOISE. Berger Performing Arts Center. 1200 W. Speedway. The power and beauty of gospel music comes alive at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, September 28, with the talents of the Gospel Music Workshop, The Prince Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Choir and the Gatekeepers of Ironwood Hills Church. Tickets are $7, free for listeners under 12. Tickets are available at the door and at Antigone's, Gospel Supplies, Gambro Health Care, or Trinity Book Store. This event is sponsored by the Arizona Kidney Foundation.

PLAZA JAZZ. St. Philip's Plaza. 4340 N. Campbell Ave. The Tucson Jazz Society continues the Plaza Suite Fall Jazz series at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 28, with Round Midnight. Tickets are $8, $4 for TJS members, and are available at the door. Café Terra Cotta will have a full bar and picnic dinners on sale. RENAISSANCE TUNES. St. Philip's In The Hills Episcopal Church. 4440 N. Campbell Ave. Slip back in time with Paul O'Dette at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 29, as he plays renaissance lute music from England and Italy. CALL TO MUSICIANS. The Catalina Chamber Orchestra is open to new members by audition. Positions are available in all instruments. Call 327-4721 to schedule an appointment.

FOOTHILLS PHIL. A love of music is all that's required to perform with the Foothills Phil, an inter-generational community orchestra conducted by Laszlo Veres. Musicians of all ages and abilities are invited to participate, with rehearsals from 6:45 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at Catalina Foothills High School, 4300 E. Sunrise Drive. Registration fee is $25. MAKING MUSIC. The Desert Dove School of Music offers a plethora of music classes for students of all ages and abilities for keyboard, recorder, guitar, voice, band and more.
