BOTANICAL GARDENS. The Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 N. Alvernon Way, are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Take a Birds and Gardening Tour, at 9 a.m. Thursday mornings. This tour will teach you about plants and gardening practices that will attract birds to your garden. Exploring the Tucson Botanical Gardens highlights TBG history and plant trivia, and will familiarize visitors with native flora. With the Gardening For The Newcomer class, students learn to create eye-catching, appealing landscapes using drought-tolerant plants. Classes are from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the first Thursday , and the third Saturday of the month. Cost is $5, $3 for TBG members. Regular admission to the gardens is $4, $3 for seniors, and free for members and children under 12. Early-bird admission special between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. is just $1. Call 326-9255 for information.

FREE FOR FALL. Visit the Tucson Botanical Gardens for free from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, September 13. The TBG staff will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to answer questions about fall planting and gardening, and there will be children's activities from 10 a.m. to noon in the Multicultural Garden. The Garden Gift shop will feature shade-grown coffee tastings, and the Iris Society will have its annual Iris Sale in the nursery. Call 326-9255 for information.

Listings GARDENING DEMONSTRATIONS. The following free demonstrations are given at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Extension Garden Center, 4210 N. Campbell Ave.: On September 17, learn what you need to know about Planting the Fall Garden. The last part of the meeting takes time to look at samples of plants brought in for identification, diagnosis, and treatment. Demonstrations are held in the open and last about one hour. GREEN VALLEY GARDENING. Green Valley Baptist Church. 1111 N. La Cañada. The Green Valley Cooperative Extension presents a series of free gardening lectures and demonstrations on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. On September 16, get ready for your fall garden with Getting Your Garden Ready: What To Do?
