Performances This Week

AMERICAN DANCE THEATRE. UA Centennial Hall, University Boulevard east of Park Avenue. The incredible talents of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6. Tickets range from $25 to $45. There is a pre-performance talk with UA Dance Faculty John Wilson from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. in Room 101 of the Douglas Building. ANIMAL WRITES. UA Joseph Gross Gallery, southeast corner of Speedway and Park Avenue. Dancer Katherine Harts and double bassist Patrick Neher join forces at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 7. They, along with members of Body Prints Theatre, will perform in response to artist William T. Wiley's current exhibition, Animal Writes, at the Joseph Gross Gallery. Admission is $5 at the door. AFRICAN DANCE. Historic YMCA Theatre. 638 N. Fifth Ave. Master teacher Donald Eno Washington teaches classes in West African and Historical Black American Dance during his three week residency in Tucson. Classes are at 7 p.m. Thursday, and 7:30 p.m. Friday March 13 through 28. There will be a special master class from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, and a drumming class at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22. Walk in admission is $15 per class, $20 for the masters class, and $12 for drumming class. There are discounts for pre-registration. Call 293-2864 for registration and information.

BALLROOM DANCING. Dance to live music from 8 to 11 p.m. Wednesdays at Let's Dance Club, 6245 E. Bellevue. Singles and couples of all skill levels are welcome. Experience a touch of sophistication and romance with theme-dress occasions and a large, decorated ballroom. Cost is $7, $5 for members. Annual membership is $25. Call 885-4599 for information.

BALLROOM DANCING. Ballroom dancing is for everyone. Enjoy dancing at the Arizona Ballroom Company, 5536 E. Grant Road, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. every Friday, and the second and fourth Saturday of each month. Singles and couples of all ages and levels are welcome. You'll start the evening with a 30 minute class, then dance the night away! You can also enjoy dancing to live music from 3 to 5:30 p.m. the first and third Sunday of the month. STEP IN TIME. Thursdays keep jumping with the evening dance hosted by Tucson Friends of Traditional Music. Learn the art of Contra dancing with live callers and traditional music starting at 8 p.m. at the Zenith Center, 300 E. Seventh St. Dancers of all abilities are encouraged.
