What is the likelihood of an override vote in the Legislature?

Re: “Wage Rage

Yeah, lc69hunter, that's just what happened in Seattle when they raised the minimum wage there to $15.

OH, WAIT - just the opposite is true! With employees having more disposable income, business picked up, and unemployment went down. Inflation was not appreciably affected.

Check out what happened to the national economy when the minimum wage was increased from 40 cents an hour to 75 cents an hour in 1950. It was followed by a period in which the economy expanded, and unemployment went down.

Re: “What Are They Smoking?

I would only add to Concerned Mom that she is joining Chris Christie in accusing cannabis consumers of lack of self control - this coming from a man who cannot control his weight even after a gastric bypass surgery. The hypocrisy, it burns!

Re: “Oregon Congressman: Legalize It!

Carpet Baggers - " forcing recreational marketing of marijuana" - is that anything like the "mandatory gay marriage" Ted Cruz kept talking about before Obergefell v. Hodges?

Frankly, the strongest argument supporting legalization of marijuana is the fact that the anti-legalization forces clearly believe that the only way they can win is by engaging in overt lies and outrageous distortions.

Re: “Editor's Note

Proud American - "excerpted" the Constitution? You mean the President included an excerpt from the Constitution in the Executive Order? I may be wrong, but I really don't think there's anything wrong, legally or otherwise, with including language from the Constitution in an Executive Order.

Re: “The Real Madness

You left out Nixon. His administration created the "schedule" system, and put marijuana on Schedule 1. When people, including scientists and physicians, objected, he created a blue ribbon panel to study the matter, and then promptly ignored their findings. Marijuana has continued to be on Schedule 1 ever since, for no good reason, other than the fact that Nixon associated its use with "hippies" and "negroes."
