Re: “Hidden Agenda?

Congregate of students:

"the old principle[sic] retired to California"

If you are speaking of Ercan Aydogdu, "retired" is not accurate.

Mr. Aydogdu left SSA-Tucson to be the principal of SSA-Broadway. He is now the principal of BayTech charter school in Oakland, CA.

"Let me take a moment to introduce myself, my name is Ercan Aydogdu, I am SSA Broadway’s principal. I was principal of SSA Tucson for the past two years, and have been with SSA for eight years."…

"I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Principal of BayTech. My name is Ercan Aydogdu"…

Re: “Hidden Agenda?

It simply isn't accurate that these students are not exposed to Gulen:
(Names are XXX'ed out to protect the child's name)

The students from Tucson, Oakland, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Denver and Reno competed for the Preliminary Finals of the Poetry Contest. XXX XXX was the first to recite the poem “Bu Bayramda Gelemedim Anne”. XXX XXX and XXX XXX sang “Daussila” followed by XXX XXX called “Hep Kahir”. He competed from Paragon Science Academy. XXX XXX with his westside of Turkey (Aegean) traditional custome recited the popular poem “Hic” written by Fethullah Gulen, the Turkish Intellectual and Author. XXX thanked the spectators for applauding enthusiastically.…

Re: “Hidden Agenda?

They are telling everyone else there are Gulen schools. Why will they not tell the parents?

"My way into this area of research, which has taken me in the past three years to the U.S. to visit schools related to Fethullah Gülen and to Turkey."
"My encouters [sic] within these schools had begun in the USA-where there are both primary/elementary and high schools."…

"As our journey continued our primary guide discussed his experience as principal of a public charter school in Los Angeles, California that he created based upon the spiritual values of Fethullah Gülen."…

"Of course there are many of these schools in Turkey, but also in other countries with Turkish populations, as well as in many Muslim countries such as Afghanistan and Egypt, and even in the United States. In fact, there are Gülen schools here in Houston."…

Re: “Hidden Agenda?

For those traveling to Turkey on school sponsored trips:

This is from River City Science Academy, a similar charter school, in Florida.

River City Science Academy
3th Annual International Trip to Turkey
Spring Break, 2010

3rd Day Istanbul
8:00 am Breakfast
9:30 am Dolmabahce Palace
12:30 pm Lunch
2:00 pm Miniaturk
3:30 pm Bosphorus Tour by Ferry
**6:00 pm Dinner (Coskun College - Sister School of FSA)**

9th Day Istanbul
8:00 am Breakfast
**9:30 am Fatih University**
12:30 pm Lunch
2:00 pm Army Museum
7:00 pm Dinner Return Hotel

*Coskun College - Sister School of FSA
This is interesting because they name Coskun a sister school which "was founded by Fethullahci, followers of the spiritual Islamic leader Fethullah Gülen, one of the most influential people in Turkey. The pedagogical project is inspired by Gülen’s principles of progress, enlightenment and development." Also interesting is FSA did not publish this information. River City Science Academy did. FSA is Fulton Science Academy a charter school in Alpharetta, GA.…

*"Fatih University in Istanbul is one of seven Gulen universities in the world"…

Re: “Hidden Agenda?

Pacifica Institute, formerly known as Global Cultural Connections, sponsored the Turkish Olympiad you probably attended in Southern California. This is a video of an Olympiad you might have attended:…

Also, this is what two independent sources say about Pacifica Institute.

1. "Pacifica Institute which works in Southern California in support of the Gülen movement."…

2. "The Pacifica Institute is a foundation based upon the teachings of Fethullah Gülen."

For my research, I would be interested in the names of the schools that attended these events. Thus far, all I can find are similar charter schools on the west coast in attendance.

I want all my comments to be verified, so here is the link to the Reuters article I posted earlier:…

Re: “Hidden Agenda?

"Karatas says he's unaware of any ties between Accord and Gülen."

Let me help Mr. Karatas out:

Ertan Salik, board member of Accord, has written four articles for Fethullah Gulen's journal, Fountain Magazine.…

Re: “Hidden Agenda?

From Fethullah Gulen's own webpage:

At that point, it should be noted that, the history of the [Gulen] movement in Europe and in Muslim World is quite short, but as a beginning, they have a good start in the Netherlands with almost all sorts of institutions and activities, in the United States with a striking rise in the amount of state-financed charter schools and in Kurdish controlled Northern Iraq with seven schools and despite a pretty slippery ground.…
