  1. I really appreciated Tim Vanderpool’s article in this issue (Getting Toole’d) on how local artists are getting screwed by the current management at MOCA. I used to know people in the Tooleshed building and it was great place for art, artists, and art lovers. Now it’s dead, thanks to the current MOCA manager. R.I.P. It’s amazing how one person can snuff out a community that other people spent years building — but thats arts administrators for ya. The bad ones, anyway. More interested in money and their own personal career than in art and artists.

In a bit of web surfing, I found this online article about the Tooleshed that fellow Tucson art fans might find interesting: http://endicottstudio.typepad.com/endicott_redux/2007/02/goodbye_toolesh.html.

All the artists getting evicted from their studios downtown makes Tucson a less interesting place. Without a central place for them to work, there’s less interaction, less vibe. Where is the Tucson Art Partnership in all this? Why aren’t they making sure that artists can stay in the Arts District? And why does ANYONE support Moca now when they behave this way to artists who were making art in that building and revitalizing downtown long before Anne-Marie Russell set foot in Tucson? The whole thing leaves a bad taste in the mouth indeed. No wonder so many artists I know are packing up and leaving town.

Anyway, thanks for the good article and for highlighting an injustice that few people would have known about before.

  2. My rant is about the rant issue. What a bunch o sissies – waaaaaah people are movin’ too slow and need to get out of MY way (detour around them speedy, I do), waaaaah a body actually touched me during a rock concert (go the orchestra then fool), waaaah I dont keep up on indie music scene so I gotta call indie fans snobs to feel better(but look like an idiot btw citing ‘hip’ bands that are soooo a year – or more – ago) and on and on and on.

If this is the best you can do skip it next year.

  3. Gee, Crafty, as we said in the intro, we were planning on retiring The Rant Issue after this year. But after your comment, we may have to consider keeping it around! Thanks for reading!
