— The ballot counting continues at the pace of a drunken, amputee snail, and nothing has changed. But I have a question: Why in the hell is this taking so long?
— Why in the hell is the Star giving precious editorial space to drivel about the late Ed Bradley? There’s no Tucson angle here. There’s nothing new here that has not been covered in almost every other news outlet in the freakin’ world.
— Also, is it news that John McCain may run for president? NO, IT IS NOT. HE’S ALREADY BEEN RUNNING FOR A FREAKIN’ YEAR. And remember: The next time someone refers to McCain as a “moderate,” punch them. He’s about as right-wing as they come.

Also in the news. Perhaps the Star is considering a move to India?

Newspaper Advertising Revenue at Gannett Falls in October
Published: November 13, 2006 10:50 PM ET
NEW YORK Advertising revenue at Gannett grew 2.0% in October mostly due to gains at its broadcast division.
At the newspaper division, ad revenue fell 2.0% on a 2.0% decline in Run of Press (ROP) volume and a 2.6% decrease in preprint distribution.
Local advertising was up 1.4% on a small decline in ROP ad volume. Small and mid-sized advertisers outpaced large advertisers.
Classified revenue decreased 3.4% on a 1.8% decline in ROP ad volume. Within the category, real estate was up 3.0%. Employment revenue dropped 6.9%. Automotive decreased 11.2%. In the U.S., classified revenue fell 4.2% on a 1.4% increase in real estate revenue and an 8.7% and 9.1% decline in employment and automotive revenues respectively.
National advertising slipped 7.0% on an 18% decline in ad volume.
At USA Today, ad revenue dropped 3.2% on a decline in paid ad pages to 419 from 454. The paper reported gains in travel, entertainment, telecommunications, retail, and real estate categories offset by weakness in automotive, technology, advocacy, and financial categories.
Good lord, Tortilla. That India outsourcing thing’s depressing. And, yeah, newspapers are getting their asses kicked. And the response by idiot newspaper companies is almost always to cut resources, therefore making the product worse. And then revenues decrease some more, and they cut more. It’s a hideous and inane cycle. Thanks for the info.
Here’s the sad thing. This morning one of my fellow employees walks up and says to me…
“You hear? McCain is going to run. Isn’t that great?”
“No.”
“Why not? All of us in the front office like him. He’s better than any democrat or republican out there. At least he’s honest.”
Another one chimed in that the only reason they voted for Kerry was that his son-in-law was HOT! Needless to say I jumped on the phone and refilled my Zoloft prescription.
Can you pass a Zoloft this direction, too, RevGabe? (Kidding. I think.) If having hot relatives were a prerequisite to winning elected office … well, all I’ll say is Dubya has a hot nephew or two.
