— So it seems some U.S. troops were forced to retreat from an area near the Mexico border after a group of armed individuals approached them. Gads. What is the United States now? Like, France?

— Marilyn Manson’s getting a divorce. Does anyone care? Anyone? No? OK, let’s move on.

— If you’re staying at the Hilton Suites in Phoenix, don’t let the bedbugs bite.

— And finally, today, the Star‘s “Thorns and Flowers” spent almost 200 words babbling about how freakin’ hilarious it was that a Goldwater Institute report used the phrase “jumping the shark.” We suggest the Star needs to 1) get out more, and 2) perhaps get laid. This phrase may have been new and fresh, oh, seven years ago. But funny? Um, yikes. And then there’s the matter of WHY IS THIS FODDER FOR THE STAR‘S OPINION SECTION?

  1. “National Guard troops working at an observatory post near the Mexican border were forced to flee after being approached by a group of armed individuals, authorities said.”

Individuals? Is there a question as to who these “individuals” are? Why isn’t the Arizona Republic calling these individuals what they are?-ILLEGALS. And what happened to these individuals? They’re probably setting up drug-house and weapons-home right next door to us. It seems that we are now under seige and these colors are a-runnin. That’s what happens when “individuals” are given MY rights and the military is de-balled. Thanks, Mexico. You’re burning my flag one “individual” at a time.

  2. Personally, I don’t care WHO these people are…IF ANYONE CROSSES THE BORDER ‘ILLEGALLY’ – SHOOT TO KILL!

Bottom line, it’s THEM or potentially us.

If we take a hard stance against these situations, there will definitely be serious contemplation prior to ANYONE crossing the border.

PS As for those ‘tree huggers’ that are ‘assisting’ these illegals crossing, by supplying them with medical attention, water, etc….I’d hold these ‘tree huggers’ as accomplices.

WHAT THE HELL ARE THE POLITICIANS THINKING – GET A DAMN BACK BONE!

  3. Hmmm…gotta wonder about deep-thinking comments such as the previous two. In fact, we DO NOT know who approached the National Guard post, but they were in another country, folks. By now it ought to be common knowledge that the VAST majority of those crossing the border without documents do so to work and pay taxes that fund services they receive disproportionately less than others. Our economy DEPENDS on this. Further, those courageous and principled people who try to ensure that people don’t die in an effort to seek a better life are human rights “accomplices” – they’re not breaking any law – at least not yet…I don’t know why ‘budthomas’ feels so threatened, but there was a time when Americans took pride in their generosity of spirit, rather than taking refuge in fear and hate. That ain’t progress, folks…

  4. In response to “Craig Acorn’s” comment…

Craig, why not just open the borders all together? You’re being naive and stupid. Bottom line is that ANYONE that attempts to cross the border illegally should be shot. Otherwise, WHO is going to be able to tell the difference between druggies, illegals, terrorists, etc. We need to be hard on ANYONE that crosses illegally – it’s THEM or Our Families! We’re living in a totally different world now (You really should pick up the newspaper every once in while and not rely on the Enquirer or the View).

As far as them crossing the border to work for less. Well, what about doing it the ‘legal’ way like everyone else is supposed to be doing…

The accomplices SHOULD be considered breaking the law. Why is this so hard to understand? Doesn’t it make obvious and logical sense to you?

Lastly, you don’t understand why Americans feel so threatened? ARE YOU AN AMERICAN?? What’s wrong with you? Try living in the Middle East, Indonesia, India or China sometime.

As far as being ‘pissed off’ – YES I AM. The majority of our governmental representation SUCKS and are seemingly in it for their own benefit. VERY poor decisions being made that benefit only a select few, which happen to be financially strong supporters – get a damn clue.

  5. Our borders must be protected and the Americans who are assigned to protect us should be able to take any action necessary to protect themselves. It is time to support our valiant men and women that are serving us. It is time that the U S people take a stand against the invasion that is happening to our country.
