— Gosh, this is depressing. Insurance companies often suck.

— Wal-Mart’s profits are down, but still freakin’ insane.

— There are so many things wrong with all of this that it makes my head want to explode. It involves Madonna, Germans and a cross. ‘Nuff said.

  1. Insurance companies do suck. To me they are like the mafia only legal. One of my friends recently had a home theft. It was her first but because her neighborhood (like many Tucson neighborhoods)is an upscale popular target, her insurance company tacked on an extra $450/year for the next three years to her already pricey payment. One of my neighbors said the same thing happened to him. Insurance companies don’t want you to actually ever use what you’ve been paying for most of your life. I don’t know how they get away with that. The same can be said for health and car insurance. There’s a powerful insurance lobby which is part of the problem and unfortunately, I don’t have a solution.

  2. You know, I met a mobster once(true story); and as friendly as he was with me, I was far more frightened by him than any insurance agent I met.

While I do agree with you that insurance is a flawed institution, simply bemoaning its effectiveness advances neither discussion nor reform.

And, I must say, when I met that mobster, I was pretty damn happy to be insured.
