  • The first Best of Tucson issue, from July 1987.

Best of Tucson™ voting kicks off tomorrow (don’t worry, we’ll send out approximately eight hundred reminders to vote before the process is finished), but hey, let’s give you, the reader, one last chance to get a new category added before the ballot goes live.

Is there something we’re missing? You can see the categories on our page of last year’s issue (just click on the sections to the left) and if there’s some sort of superlative we should include, say so in the comments. Who knows? Your “Best Tucson [fill in the blank]” could be on this year’s ballot.

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. Best storytelling organization
    best local theater company
    best small theater venue
    best public library branch
    best pothole
best bike route for urban flavor
    best bike route (in general)
    best place for water sports
    best urban hike
best street-scape (if you were going to stroll a street in Tucson for beauty and ambiance…)
    best NEGLECTED historical landmark

  2. There are too many pizza places in Tucson to just have one pizza category.
Best pizza by the slice (or NY style)
    Best Neapolitan-style pizza
    Best Chicago-style pizza

  3. I agree with Adam. And there should be a “Best Craft Pizza” too, which is obviously Reilly!

  4. Since we are lucky enough in Tucson to actually have DJs that bring their knowledge and love of music to the airways, why don’t we have a category for best DJ? The bests in the media category for radio now sound like best corporate computer generated schlock e.g. best blabbermouth. Why not have a category that reflects Tucson’s eclectic tendencies? I for example would vote for Pepe who curates the best Latin music show on air Wednesdays at 6pm on 91.3 KXCI.

  5. MMH: That would fall under “Best Radio Personality” for us, but yes, there should probably be a clearer distinction between “person who actually selects music” and “person who makes dumb jokes about boobs on a morning show.”
