David Safier at Blog for Arizona notes that Republican John Huppenthal, a state senator who running for State Superintendent of Public Instruction race, is ducking public appearances with his Democratic opponent, Penny Kotterman. Details here.

Here’s another for the list: Huppenthal won’t even return phone calls from Bill Buckmaster of Arizona Illustrated.

  1. What who you expect from a guy who has one of the worst voting records in the legislature when it comes to voting for public education. He voted against public education 100% of the time in 2009.

Not what I’d expect for the state public school superintendent office.

He is also not very bright, too. He would come off worst than Brewer did in here recent debate. So he is chicken for good reason.

His platform is I am a Republican, therefore, I’m your man…and I have the biggest campaign signs. Oh yeah, I’m a mormon, too, how dare we let a woman be in charge of anything.

  2. Huppenthal has debated his opponent numerous times – most recently in a debate sponsored by the African American Commission. These debates are rigged debates, scheduled in Catalina, Vail and Scottsadale – all designed to put his opponent, a democrat in front of Republican audiences. The design uses taxpayer dollars, email lists, etc to advance a democrat’s campaign. Where are the debates in Sunnyside, Roosevelt, etc that would draw a democrat audience? Those aren’t happening.

Huppenthal’s campaign is based on the fact that he actually made a huge difference in Arizona. He saved the Career Ladder program, create statewide performance pay for teachers, introduced teacher job satisfaction measurement. He is a candidate who will make a difference.
