There’s been some discussion on social media about our comics lately, especially the ones not by local authors, so I thought it might be time to find out what you, the reader, think about these strips in the first place.
You might notice that a few strips aren’t included in the survey. The local strips (Hoopleville, Red Meat, Random Shots and K. Rat) will likely be in the Weekly as long as the authors keep creating them. In fact, we’re definitely looking to add another local strip or two. Tom Tomorrow’s This Modern World is so good, it feels like his strip is just an alt-weekly given at this point. Mild Abandon is still new and, frankly, I find it hilarious, so it’s safe.
Also, I’d love to know what strips you enjoy that we’re not currently running. Is there a particularly brilliant webcomic we’ve missed? Something another alt-weekly has that we don’t? We’ll leave the survey up for a month or so and see what we learn. Thanks in advance for your help.

My answer about your comics — Not much! Don’t like them, don’t waste my time reading them.
I don’t read them, either. Usually the print is small and dense and not worth the time to decipher. I wouldn’t miss them if they were gone. You can get rid of News of the Weird and the crossword puzzle, too. I’m able to entertain myself. I read the paper to find out what’s going on in Tucson and what events are worth my time. I would rather you take the money you’re spending on these things and put it into investigative reporting and reviews.
Please ignore the above comment! The News of the Weird is what’s kept me coming back to TW for almost 25 years now. The crossword puzzles and comics are great also. It’s really a shame that you can’t include The Boondocks anymore though, that’s a huge loss for everybody.
One can read News of the Weird on the internet and buy a crossword puzzle book. The Weekly is the only source for what’s happening in Tucson that’s all in one place every week. I don’t know what those syndicated things cost, but I’d be willing to bet the money would go a long way towards the expenses necessary for local reporting.
Why bother buying the cow when you can get the milk for free? Why do I need to buy a crossword book when TW provides 2 very cool crossword puzzles for me weekly?
Why bother to access News of the Weird on the internet when I can conveniently open up TW and read it in there? It’s been a staple in this publication for at least 20 years.
Just because it’s called Tucson Weekly does’t mean it should be all about Tucson. Local news takes a minute or 2 to focus on issues outside of the city, and the different items add variety. I like the idea of everything I want and more in one place, and I really doubt the money TW would save would do much of anything for investigative and/or local reporting. The people they have seem to do very well already. Credit where credit is due.
Keep the Rat. He is Tucson…but it would help me out if someone could explain the genius of Max Cannon, because I just don’t get it.
It would be nice if the comics were back in the online version of TW. Please put them back. I have to drive 35 miles to get a dead-tree version.
Random Shots, Tom Tomorrow, K. Rat, The City, Rall are my favorites. Red Meat occasionally is funny (at least to me…).
I barely look at the Last Days of Roland & Cid or Hoopleville and wouldn’t miss either if you decide to find another comic to publish
