The Buffet has been named one of America’s Best Bars by Esquire magazine.
Says Esquire:
A classic American dive, the Buff dispenses cheap beer and strong drinks. It’s Tucson’s oldest bar, there by the railroad tracks since 1934, and ten bucks still gets you two pitchers of Coors. At 6:00 a.m. it opens. At 6:00 p.m. you get a free drink on the house for “Happy Minute.” The hot dogs are available all day long. But they should never be consumed sober.
BTW, Esquire spells the name of our town “Tuscon.” Definitely not man at his best.
This article appears in May 7-13, 2009.

Oldest bar, eh? When did The Mint open? (I’m not debating, just openly enquiring.)
I believe the Mint has been in business longer, but not at the same location. Tucson bar flies: Details?
As far as I know the Mint opened before the Buff, but closed for a spell, while the Buffet never closed, making the Buffet the oldest continuously operating bar in Tucson.
The new owners at the Buffet have been tearing it up since they took over from Ted some months ago. Their Thanksgiving meal was out of sight – it was served free to anyone who cared to venture in – and their recent salsa contest also rocked the party.
OH GEEZ, Faces ‘obscured.’ Ha. Those were the good old days. Good thing you ‘obscured’ my face, my blog readers would have a heyday with this!
