Every couple years I sit down with Dave Carroll, the kitchen manager at Surly Wench Pub, to sip Jaegermeister and Pabst and wax philosophical about life. He’s always got his finger on the pulse of what’s happening Downtown and his varied work history at different restaurants down there gives him a unique perspective on the dining scene.
When we sat down this week he was a little bit pissed about the banner that hangs outside of Lindy’s on Fourth. It says the place serves the best burger on Fourth Avenue. Carroll says that’s an unsubstantiated claim, and I have to agree.
Carroll said they should settle this difference by having a Best Burger on the Avenue competition. This is a good idea. Maloney’s serves one hell of a burger, and so does Surly Wench, Delectables and Bumsted’s. Hell, it might even be a good idea to hold it sometime this August when the construction creeps down to that portion of Fourth Avenue, slowing business and pissing everybody off in general.
Let’s make this happen Fourth Avenue Merchants Association, restaurant owners and anybody else who has something to offer. It would be a blast.

I’ll just work the beer garden, if that’s cool with everyone.
Why just on 4th? You know Tucson goes from Valencia to Skyline, from Houton to Greasewood and all we seem to be concerned about is “Downtown?” I’m getting irritated with the “Downtown” Cartel sucking the life out of Tucson all while claiming to be its coming rebirth! Tucson is Tucson not just a small area, the Best burger in town is at the Home Plate Pub on 22nd St, the Bacon Cheese Burger has no equal! Bill Heath local Business owner on 22nd St. Come on down to the Home Plate before our roads get so bad you cannot make the trip anymore or more likely is is nearer to you than Downtown!
Because, Billy, obviously this came about due to a “Best Burger on Fourth” sign, not best in Tucson
Lindy’s is good. Come to LA, there are some good burgers here too.
Went to Lindy’s today, and I was not impressed with the burger. It was overcooked and did not have much flavor. With all the hoopla surrounding Lindys from their appearance on Man vs Food with Adam Richman I wanted to try the place. It was disappointing to say the least.
