We’ve been through this before and our governor managed to embarrass herself (and through some variation on the transitive property, the state of Arizona) in the process by wagging her finger and scolding the President of the United States as if she were a out-of-control second grade teacher. However, Jan Brewer is trying to put herself in the position to pull the same stunt again:

Andrew Wilder, Brewer’s spokesman, said the governor is interested in meeting with Obama.

“I can’t tell you about whether or not the governor is going to be welcoming the president,” Wilder said. “I can confirm there’s certainly interest on our end to do so. But we don’t know where he’s coming from and where he’s going.”

Asked what topics the governor would like to discuss with Obama, Wilder responded, “That’s nothing we’re going to discuss at this time. That’s all I’m going to say about it.”

Brewer does actually have something to discuss with Obama – the odd delay in declaring the Yarnell Fire a disaster – but can she send a representative? Send a carrier pigeon? Anything that keeps Governor Jan from having a face-to-face with the President again.

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. This is about the stupidest article. I am not fan of Obama, but if you actually think one Governor is a threat to how he thinks or how he is gonna conduct affairs then you should just quit your job as a soo called reporter. Yeah by the way you can thank them both for making Arizona the 5th worst state in the country for employment. Your one of the people who are the problem. Too concerned about what political party is what. Bottom line they are chosen leaders that have been elected and failed the people who they represent. I don’t know a single supervisor that does such a bad job and still employed. Only in politics can someone screw up soo bad,not own up to it and still have a job.

  2. Sorry Dan, but Obama deserved the scolding he got from Jan last time. As odd as she may be, she was right-on regarding her point.

  3. Perhaps it’s just best Obama leave office. If the paper is so worried about offending this Flim Flam Man, perhaps shuttering your doors would be just as appealing.

  4. 0bama and Brewer deserve each other. Wouldn’t it be great if they both resigned and ran off to Reno together? Hhhhmmm…that would leave the country in the hands of not just another idiot, but a drunk idiot. Although, Joe would be hard pressed to do worse.

  5. If she breaks out that finger again, wonder if the Secret Service will evoke “stand your ground”

  6. Brewer, as the IMAGE of Arizona, was priceless. Prior to that event, all other pols had rolled into the “position” whenever Zero showed up. I just wish Jan had stuck to her guns; she appears to have flipped.

  7. Can anyone please post a link to video of that “30 seconds of silence” moment where she completely froze up in a TV debate? That was unbelievable. And then she got elected anyway. Wow! What does that say about Arizona?

  8. This article shows what a liberal rag this paper really is. We live in America there is nothing wrong with voicing our displeasure with the elected officials, in fact I think more people need to do it. And if anyone is acting like a second grader I would say the President is by withholding aid, possibly because our Governor does not bow down to him.

  9. The best way to keep Brewer away from Obama is to impeach Obama and send him back to Kenya.

  10. Imagine a reverse of Brewer’s rude and ignorant finger pointing! An African American Governor greeting George Bush with such disrespect. Brewer’s first defense was “she felt afraid.” Really? She is an embarrassment as a governor. Common decency and good manners were clearly left out of her education. She behaved poorly and showed herself to be the totally classless person she really is. She is the representative of government in Arizona and her actions reflected badly on us as citizens of this state.
