Yesterday, U.S Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said democrats “distorted” his “pregnancies from rape are something God intended to happen” comments. Here’s what The Huffington Post wrote about it. It’s really easy for people like Mourdock to blame others for the words that come out of his mouth. He said democrats twisted his words to dimish him politically. But shortly after, the Democratic National Committeeposted videos of him saying those comments.

GOP candidates need to shut their mouths about rape already, especially when defending their anti-abortion views. It is simply offensive to hear this idiocy. Remember U.S. Congressman Todd Akin, and his enlightening revelation that we, women, can shut down our bodies to avoid pregnancies after being raped?

Every day it becomes more obvious to me that GOP candidates (including GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney) are clueless when it comes to women’s issues and women’s rights.

  1. The fact is that most of my Christian fundamentalist relatives back in Appalachia will be disappointed with Mourdock’s “apology.”

That’s because many of them sincerely believe that women that are raped provoked the act and that pregnancy is God’s punishment.

They also will vote for Romney because they hate the Federal government, despite the fact that most of them are virtually dependent on its support.

I do have a brother-in-law who’s a big Obama supporter. I asked him why there is such hostility toward Obama.

“Come on, you know why – it’s because he’s not white.” he said.

  2. Riorican,

There are people who say that they will not vote for Obama because he is “black” but in a number of polls that have been done this number is only around 4% of voters nationwide. In the same polls an aggregate of nearly 20% of voters say that they would not vote for a Mormon candidate, around 10% of independent voters say they would not vote for a Mormon.. People have biases and some people will let those biases dictate how they vote.

Since 1948, all presidential elections, except for one in 2004, (maybe 2 depending on how you view 2000) have been decided by the voting public’s perception of the economy. This is why the Obama campaign is trying to use women’s rights as a wedge to overcome poor economic performance. When GOP candidates make statements about rape that don’t play well nationally, they are unintentionally playing into the strategy of the democratic party.

However, if we are going to look at this as a black vs. Mormon election then Obama has a clear advantage when it comes to voter preference. That is NOT how the vast majority of people vote, but do enough people vote based on discrimination to effect a close election? If so, advantage Obama, at least according to all the data available.

Forgetting about the economy; the combination of women’s rights and a bias against Mormons could be enough for Obama to win. One caveat, there are two “religions” that poll worse than Mormons; Islam and Atheism. Is this why republican operatives and right leaning media are upping their insinuations that Obama is a Muslim? Are they counting on people being more afraid of Islam than Mormonism? This is a much more plausible explanation than “it’s because he is black”. The numbers don’t lie….

  3. I personally call these type of people Cavemen. Women to them are to be controlled they are not equal, they have there place and must mind there master. That’s the way the GOP operates still to this day. Why do you think they made the promise to hold Obama to one term? Hes a black man and they can’t stand the thought of a black man in their White House. These are “CAVEMEN”.

  4. Great insight into how the Republicans view women and their rights Mrs. (Ms. ?, Mz. ?) Taracena! It’s amazing to me that any woman would support or become part of their holier-than-thou campaign. Old man nails it by calling these Troglodytes what they are, Cavemen. If you want to set this country back several hundred years, than please, keep voting Republican.

Just in case you’re wondering, the fact that a man is Afro-American or Mormon is not swaying my decision in any way. It is logic and clarity that is taking care of that for me.

Also, if you can’t show love or respect for yourself than how are you going to show these traits to others? I’m not narcissistic but I am going to click the like icon when I’m done posting this comment; only because I do enjoy what I write. Who’s will know better about the type of material that you will enjoy than yourself? Just sayin’.

  5. “Who will know about the type of material that you enjoy better than yourself?”

That’s how I should have written it. I proofread it afterward and thought the way I wrote it looked silly, so here’s my correction. Sorry English professors!

  6. Politicans are plain stupid dumbbells, should keep their mouth shut and never be seen. As for all known rapiest castrate them in public and chain them down on a railroad track, toot toot. Or maybe it should be the politicans on the track. Just saying something needs to be done in both cases. Here’s a knife.
