“Tucson stands in solidarity with our Black brothers and sisters across the country in fighting the systemic racism that pervades our society at all levels,” Romero said in a prepared statement. “We are here to support, listen, and learn from the Black Lives Matter movement and our community so that we can better effect change and work for meaningful reform that closes racial, economic and social inequities.”
“Now, all Tucsonans as well as visitors driving along Interstate 10 will see loud and clear where Tucson stands in this historic moment,” Romero added. “My thanks to the Gloo Factory, SKYTEK Building Services, and City of Tucson Facilities and Communications Maintenance for making this happen.”

Love it! Thank you Mayor Romero!!
What a Moron.
This is called jumping on the bandwagon for future political gain….will we ever get a mayor that leads the community, lets citizens work out political positions for themselves, or places freedom above power and enforce safety at the experience of her family values and need?
What’s next Mayor ? The Antifa flag, replacing the American flag. If you do this , your chances for reelection will quadruple.
Doesn’t the size violate the sign code ordinance they enforce against local businesses trying to make a living? I would also bet she did not apply for a permit.
I personally have been subject to racial profiling by the Tucson Police department and harassed. Interesting the mayor who is of Mexican American descent focuses on BLM when there are like 6 black people in all of Tucson. It is comical really, We make up like less than two percent of the population here. Focus on police brutality and policies surrounding the border for my Mexican brothers. How can you bring awareness to a community where the people you are protesting for don’t exist? Native Americans and Mexican Americans make up the minority population here. Just telling facts.
Wow, this little thread of racist angst proves exactly why it’s so important to SAY IT LOUD:
BLACK LIVES MATTER!
Racism thrives when people refuse to talk about it, refuse to name it, refuse to own it, and refuse to work against it. The best way to combat racism is to listen, learn, and lead the way in actively working against it, just as Regina said in her statement when she hung the sign. That sign says that racism is not welcome in our community–there is no place for it here, and we will not tolerate it.
Pretending that racism and black people (?!) don’t exist in Tucson is the perfect way to perpetuate the racist structures that erode all of our humanity.
Thank you Regina, for showing leadership on this issue. Now PLEASE TAKE AWAY THE COPS’ MILITARISTIC TOYS, which they have so thoroughly proven that they cannot be trusted to play with responsibly…..waiting…………….
They’ve already done that in Chicago. In fact they outlawed guns. Over the weekend 119 were shot and 14 died. Black on black crime is at record levels, so while you think everybody is racist that doesn’t agree with you, why not point your hatred towards those committing the crimes? That seems more sane than blaming law abiding citizens.
