When you think of the top foodie cities in the country, you probably think of New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Las Vegas etc. But, here in Tucson, we are quietly sitting on a culinary goldmine. Great Mexican food, a long line of historical restaurants plus more breweries popping up every day, Tucson is a great place for those who love to enjoy some delicious food and drink.

Experts at Travelzoo conducted a survey to fine the 6 Top Foodie Cities in the Country Right Now and Tucson tops the list!

The nation’s first UNESCO City of Gastronomy has beguiled the Travelzoo team thanks to delicious, approachable fare like the bacon-wrapped Sonoran hot dog at El Güero Canelo’s, plus plenty of brunch hotspots, bakeries, and a new bean-to-bar chocolate spot, plus temporary pop-up dinners and other special foodie events. – The Feast

Way to go Tucson! Other cities that made the list were Detroit, Greensville South Carolina, Houston, Oakland and Portland Maine. View the full list here.

  1. I love Tucson, but this is really hard to believe.
Anyone who’s been to a truly spectacular food city like New York or San Francisco, has to shake their head and wonder why Bacon hot dogs somehow make Tucson a leading gastronomic paradise.
Tucson has seen a lot of great restaurants open, but you can find more great restaurants in a city block of San Francisco than all of Tucson. Most big cities have close proximity to fresh produce, fish, etc. Tucson is in a desert and, Willcox not withstanding, virtually all produce and meat is hauled a significant distance and it shows in the product. But the tacos are pretty great.

  2. BSLAP is misinformed, most of the nation’s winter produce is grown within 200 miles of tucson, but in true altfact mentality here comes a hero to spread unfounded misinformation. And we all know how close to fresh produce and meat NYC is. All the eye rolls.

  3. Why Guero Canelo makes the list, because its timeless and is nationally recognized… I guess. Thier sonaran dogs are something to be desired, cheap small dogs with the thinnest under smoked bacon money can buy then it letterally disappears in the bun. So know, every other bit is beans n salsa(usally mostly tomatoes). Now after the mini ran, Tacos Apson, Frost, Parrish, Charros, Fiamme, Pueblo Vida and ISLAND PLATE IS # KILLINGIT… Downtown Kitchen n Cocktails, Sies, Maynards, Carriage House, Cafe Poca Cosa, PY Steakhousethe and list goes on, we have some great Chefs inTucson!
