Another day, another poll showing Donald Trump leading the GOP field. The latest Quinnipiac poll shows that 28 percent of Republican voters are leaning toward Trump, with Ben Carson in second place with 12 percent and everyone else in single digits.

There’s plenty of analysis out there about whether Trump can actually win the nomination and why he has caught fire among GOP voters. Pollster Frank Luntz—recently dismissed as a “low class slob” by Trump—is starting to think that nothing will stop The Donald in the GOP primary. Presidential hopeful and U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham has suggested that if Trump gets the nomination, it’s the end of the Republican Party.

A new Gallup poll shows that roughly 2 out of 3 Latinos surveyed have a negative impressive of Trump while only 14 percent approve, creating an astonishing -51 approval rating. But Gallup notes that Trump’s rhetoric and actions—including telling reporter Jorge Ramos to “go back to Univision” earlier this week—doesn’t seem to be hurting the rest of the GOP brand:

Trump has a highly unfavorable image among U.S. Hispanics, but at least for now, this doesn’t seem to be tarnishing the rest of the Republican field. As of mid-August, Bush’s image among Hispanics had improved as Trump’s immigration positions dominated the news. With Hispanics constituting only a small fraction of the Republican Party, this has not boosted Bush’s favorable rating — which has been fairly flat all summer among the Republican base. But, unless his “anchor babies” comment derails him, Bush’s recent jockeying with Trump could help warm Hispanic voters to him in the general election should he capture the nomination. For now, Clinton has a modest advantage over Bush in favorability among Hispanics, but she is also much better known than her Democratic competitors.

  1. Lindsey “goober” Graham has hurt repubs more than Trump. Donald is a unifying voice that has not hit his potential yet. I can’t wait to see a cost efficient federal government. How much more could we actually get accomplished?

  2. Trainmanswife: You do know there are many, many Latinos here who are citizens and can vote, right?

  3. The Latino US Citizens are NOT happy with the Democratic party:
Democrats beat Republican Mitt Romney by 71% to 27%, in 2012.
Democrats won the Latino vote by a margin of 62% to 36% in 2014

Only 8% of the vote in the last election was Hispanic and of that about 5% was for Democrats and 3% was Republican.

The Democrats are slipping with Latinos basically because they want the legal Latinos to compete with the illegal Latinos and that’s not working well for the Latino US Citizens.

Trump appeals to the majority on immigration: April 6, 2015 A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 62% believe the government is not aggressive enough in deporting these illegal immigrants, up from 52% a year ago and 56% in November.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 56% of Likely U.S. Voters now oppose the president’s plan to allow the illegal immigrants to remain in this country legally and apply for jobs.

  4. YOU folks should stop focusing on race and ethnicity and start focusing on THIS reality: Trump is not popular on the basis of racial “chauvinism.”

Behold the rise of Bernie Sanders and the fall of Hillary: both Democrats and Republicans are fed up with the establishment of both parties, and the status quo.

American voters are mad as hell. And they are NOT gonna take it anymore!

  5. Politicians will say anything to anyone to get elected, that’s the name of the game. Obama promised to be “Open” with the government, and help Blacks. Has he really helped them, improved race relations? I think not. IF you voting for someone just because he’s Black, Mexican, sorry that’s a bad word, Latino, it’s the wrong motivation.

  6. Indoctrination works, especially when started young and in our schools.

    2006 – Marxist and illegal alien activist Dolores Huerta rallying the Grijalva rebellion of chicanos at TUSD;

    “Republicans hate latinos”

Keep spreading the hate ‘little jimmie’, keep spreading the hate.

  7. Trump is far from presidential, he is a blowhard and he is a dickhead, but he is also so spot of right on certain issues. His stance in favor of a privately run non-profit single payer health care system which would eliminate the artificial cost constraints put on by having 50 different health care markets is exactly what this country needs.

With that, of course, Trump is a double edged sword. He seems to be the only candidate who can talk about social and political solutions that are not mainstream DC, but with that comes his brashness, sexism and xenophobia. Uhg.

Maybe Bernie will start talking about a single payer socialized health care system but for now Trump is the only one offering up a real fix to the problems associated with for profit health care in the USA. (Most of us can expect to see premiums rise another 15-30% this year)

At least he is making other republican candidates take a stance on issues. We can hate him all we want but we are able to learn a lot about the other guys running because of the Trump effect. Keep taking stances, issue more policy papers and continue to force the other candidate away from generic rhetoric and towards more specific stances. Super entertaining.

  8. Interesting points, HumanBean, especially about healthcare and single payer.

But what are the issues that the candidates are addressing because of Trump? Building a 100-foot wall? I see a lot of histrionics and no real discussion of any of the issues that affect the American public.

Contrast this to Bernie’s platform that is supported by about 65-70% of the US public. This platform has zero media coverage but is bringing out historic crowds and the biggest donor and volunteer base in the country:

    1. Rebuild our crumbling infrastructure
    2. Reverse climate change
    3. Create worker co-ops
    4. Grow the trade union movement
    5. Raise the minimum wage to a $15 living wage
    6. Pay equity for women
    7. Trade policies that benefit American workers
    8. Make public universities tuition-free (paid-for by enacting a financial transaction tax on Wall Street trades), and lower interest rates on current federal student loans
    9. Break up the big banks
    10. Medicare for all
    11. Expand Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and nutrition programs
    12. Crack down on offshore tax havens, return to a progressive tax code, and eliminate corporate tax loopholes

  9. Hillary Clinto beats Bernie handsdown and she may go to jail. Dems only hope is Biden, and that’s just too funny for words.

The job has always been above his capabilities, not his pay grade.

    Rush is right about this:

BIDEN: I recommend that the president have at it and let the chips fall where they may. A reasonable position for the secretary of defense, the secretary of state to take. But I respectfully suggest, Major, I respectfully suggest that responsibility is slightly above your pay grade, slightly above your pay grade, to decide whether or not to take the nation to war alone or to take the nation to war part way or to take the nation to war half-ah– (pause) halfway.

RUSH: And he went on and on, and he just ripped Ritter a new one because Ritter was saying things about potential action in Iraq that they didn’t want to hear. Remember, they were all gung-ho for it back then. So here’s Barry picking up a phrase, “above my pay grade,” from someone else.

  10. Well, Dan, posting a link to the blowhard limp-balls sure lets us know exactly where you get your dis-information…

    Thanks for the honesty…

  11. Any of the dis-information (thanks ChetDude) Rush Limbaugh spews out is not to be trusted. That blowhard is a proven idiot; whether you vote democrat, republican or whatever.

  12. OK it’s obvious that you two blowhards did not read the link.

It was discussing Scott Ritter’s comments regarding Biden.

Weapons of mass destruction Biden’s biography on the White House website touts his credentials as a former chairman or ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee who’s been “at the forefront of issues and legislation related to … weapons of mass destruction.” Scott Ritter, the chief United Nations weapons inspector in Iraq prior to the invasion, probably wouldn’t agree. In 2002, Ritter said “Sen. Joe Biden is running a sham hearing. It is clear that Biden and most of the Congressional leadership have pre-ordained a conclusion that seeks to remove Saddam Hussein from power regardless of the facts, and are using these hearings to provide political cover for a massive military attack on Iraq.”

  13. Can’t Stump the Trump.

A nation without borders is not a nation.

I will settle for Bernie, but I want America to be great again!

  14. Bernie will be lucky to carry Vermont. Middle America? Not so much. Taxing will not make America great again. We need to stop destroying business and let them pay the bills for us. How did economics get this screwed up? Politicians right?
