The Obama administration suffered a big setback in its efforts to get fast-track authority to negotiate the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal after a part of the plan was rejected in Congress today.
U.S. Reps. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) and Keith Ellison (D-MN), who co-chair the Congressional Progressive Caucus, are delighted by this turn of events. Their statement:
The defeat of The Trade Act is a big step towards stopping the job-killing Trans-Pacific Partnership. Today’s victory belongs to people who rely on Medicare, union members, environmental organizers and every single working family in America. The fight is far from over. President Obama and the Republican majority will not stop pushing until they get the rubber-stamp they need to sign another bad trade deal. The Progressive Caucus will push too, but on the side of Americans who are already struggling to make ends meet. We will oppose any trade deal that lowers wages, endangers our air, land and water and supports human trafficking.

I love how everybody “knows” that this bill is bad when no one had had a chance to read it. I have zero problem with the bill…I am, however, having Obamacare flashbacks because of how this is being handled. The person who introduces a bill prohibiting these “you’ll know what’s in it after we pass it” maneuvers and ushers said bill into law shall have my undying gratitude and will have earned my loyalty.
I am sick and tired of secretive bills. We as constituents have no representation because we have no facts.
It’s time for class action lawsuits against representative government. There is no representation.
I would love for just one of the stooges who disliked what David had to say to have the cajones to explain why. I’m baffled as to what’s not to like about the points he made. Me agreeing with Raul the ragpicker, we may get a foot of snow by tomorrow.
Whenever business is hot for something it is usually a fornication upon the employees or workforce. If business get its way, you and your family will lose. There is no ” Free Lunch, Free Trade or Free Love”.
Someone loses and that someone will be You………………….. Even Mexican illegal immigrants report that you can’t make any money in America anymore. Pass all this Free Trade nonsense and you will end up picking dung with chickens.
Despite your allusion to the contrary, there are many Republicans opposed to this also. The Chamber of Commerce does NOT represent the majority of Republicans.
CW13 because you elect them, your class action is to not vote for them next time.
How many of you read the Obamacare bill? How many of you who didn’t read it had an opinion on it? How many of you read the chemical analysis of the medications you take? If you did, how much sense did it make? How many of you react to soundbites instead of asking questions? How many of you looked up details about international trade agreements before having an opinion? Yea that is what I thought.
Case Closed.
My concerns are amplified by what just happened with our trade agreement with Canada (I believe covered under NAFTA). We had to change our meat labeling as to source, because Canada was going to take us to the WTO court.
That is common export practice for all exported non-ag product. Without it you wouldn’t know when your cheap goods are made in China. Made in the USA is usually a statement of quality.
Case open. I didn’t read Obummer care because I’m not as smart as the lawyers who didn’t understand it I spent alot time looking into the trade bill. I’ll admit I understood most of it, but not all of it. But I look at them the same way. If It’s good for the tsar in the White House, it can’t be good for us. As far as electing them, I managed to make through the 3rd grade. Hence, I was smart enough not to vote for Obummer.

See this is all just stupid partisan politics. CW doesn’t like it because he doesn’t like the president, democrats oppose it because republicans are for it, and the unions told them not to like it. Such original thinkers. Not.
