State Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal ruled today that TUSD’s Mexican-American Studies program violates state law, so TUSD either has to drop the program, appeal the decision, or lose ten percent of their funding. Actually, even better, it appears that the Department of Education can yank funding retroactively, dating back to August 15th, which seems like a move really serving the students of the district. Is there anyway that money can come directly from the administrators? Otherwise, I just assume my son’s school will just stop using electricity or something. It’s not like there’s much money left to take. More on this from Mari Herreras later, I imagine.
Personally, I feel bad for the kids involved, jerked around in this mess, becoming political pawns, but in the war between TUSD (a wildly inefficient government body that no one seems to have anything good to say about, especially me at this particular moment) and John Huppenthal (a guy who seems to despise the very definition of public education as it has stood in America for the last century), it’s hard to find a side worth feeling sympathy for.

About time we get rid of ‘Ethnic’ studies programs. If these folks want to live in this country, then they should be educated as Americans.
So the racist Tom Horne, with the equally racist Russell Pearce write a law specifically aimed at TUSD’s La Raza program (and remember, neither man would look at the curriculum or do any research—they just “knew” it was against whites) and not only does Tom Horne’s lapdog go along with it, but TrainWreck Unified reinstates the man opposed to La Raza. The Hispanic kids will certainly learn from this. They will learn White Makes Right.
Between those last two posts just about everyone has been hated on and insulted. Representative of the problem.
