There are days when you just have to step up to the plate and make a good decision. Today is one of those days.

Opinions about music are often worthless, the most subjective sort of assessment, so take this for what it’s worth, but as far as I’m concerned, there’s no better package of music available than Big Star’s #1 Record/Radio City. I love this music so much that I’m hard pressed to even think of ways to describe it, but if you enjoyed the middle of the Beatles’ career, Badfinger, the Replacements, 90’s power pop acts like Matthew Sweet or Velvet Crush, or guitar based pop bands singing about girls and life, you need Big Star in your life.

#1 Record/Radio City is available for $5 digitally from Amazon today. I get nothing out of this transaction, except the hope that a few more people hear my favorite band of all time. Go buy it.

  1. You are absolutely, positively, 100% right on the money. That record would be a bargain at five times the price. For die-hards, the box set “Keep and Eye on the Sky” is an absolute must. The solo demo tracks Alex Chilton records are hauntingly beautiful, and the live disc is proof that behind such perfection lies an imperfect, yet relentlessly enthusiastic human element. Life-affirming music.
