1. Nick Offerman wasn’t nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his brilliant portrayal of Ron Swanson. However, seemingly the entire male cast of Modern Family was. Amy Poehler correctly assessed the injustice:
But it’s a hot load of bullshit that he didn’t get a nomination, and you can quote me on that. But I suspect and hope that will change. And certainly that field, there’s a lot of talented men vying for that position. If you asked Nick, he’d say the show is represented. But I would say his work on the show is the best stuff on TV, and he deserves every award. A lot of people don’t know that Nick designed all of the costumes in “Game of Thrones.”
2. Emmy statistics for the late, lamented HBO show The Wire. Two nominations, no wins, once losing to an episode of House. Statistics for the somewhat enjoyable, but nearly entirely disposable HBO show Entourage?: 25 nominations, four wins.
This article appears in Jul 14-20, 2011.

To be fair, Entourage’s major awards wins all went to Jeremy Piven, which were entirely deserved. And that particular episode of House might be the best episode of one of the most watched dramas in the history of television.
But you’re right, The Wire and Arrested Development, probably the two best shows ever, got screwed by the Emmys. AD got plenty of nominations, but it lost Outstanding Comedy Series twice, once inexplicably to Everybody Loves Raymond.
It is utterly stupid that The Walking Dead didn’t get a Outstanding Drama nod. Neither Boardwalk Empire nor The Good Wife were deserving over that great gem.
But I don’t think the biggest snub this year is Nick Offerman. The fact that Community has gone two seasons without one nomination makes no sense. It is one of the most unique, well-written shows on television, and it can’t seem to get any recognition whatsoever, viewers or awards. It is far, far better than The Office (why is this show still getting nominated?) and The Big Bang Theory.
Kathy Bates over Kyra Sedgwick?
